Highlights

  • Priestess has a variety of miracles at her disposal, including Sanctuary, which purifies things that pass through the barrier.
  • Minor Heal is a quick-fix healing ability, but it has limitations and doesn't work on poison.
  • Silence is a vital spell used by Priestess to help the party stay quiet and sneak up on goblin nests.

Goblin Slayer has a fairly short list of major characters, and one of the first ones to appear is also one of the most favored: Priestess. This green adventurer quickly learned the reality of fighting against goblins and has since come in clutch during the many dire situations that Goblin Slayer has found himself in.

Just shy of the Platinum rank, these adventurers show they have what it takes to be in the gold class.

She may not be hacking and slashing her way through the world, but Priestess’ miracles are a cut above the rest. Partying up with Goblin Slayer has essentially power-leveled Priestess, giving her more spell slots than most of her peers and allowing her to use six miracles in, quite literally, unorthodox ways. Make no mistake though, some of her miracles are way more impressive than others.

6 Sanctuary

One of the only miracles not shown in the anime despite it being present fairly early in the manga and light novels, Sanctuary is one of Priestess’ weakest spells. It works similarly to protection but seeks to purify things that pass through the barrier rather than completely block them.

In the light novel, Priestess uses this spell to stop an avalanche of snow from entering a cave, though in a similar situation in Goblin’s Crown, she uses Protection. It remains to be seen whether Sanctuary will be cast in upcoming episodes, but regardless of whether Priestess decides to cast it or not, the miracle probably won’t be very effective.

5 Minor Heal

Healing is a great ability to have and one that many parties depend on. However, with Priestess’ minor heal miracle, there’s a lot left to be desired. First and foremost, it doesn’t do anything for poison, as Wizard found out during the traumatic first episode of the series. Secondly, it has a fairly small area of effect, meaning that every cut and bruise must be healed separately, and more dire wounds take longer to heal than small ones.

It’s certainly a great option for quick fixes when the party is low on options, but even Priestess carries healing items to augment her healing abilities in the field.

4 Silence

Anyone who plays D&D knows how vital silencing spells can be, as most parties instinctively use pass without a trace before entering a dangerous area. Similarly, Priestess’ miracle silence is used multiple times throughout Goblin Slayer to ensure the party can get as close to goblin nests as possible and complete important reconnaissance missions.

Considering that one party member is constantly wearing full armor and another is a giant lizard bedecked in religious ornaments, staying quiet can be a challenge. It may not be her most powerful spell, but silence is extremely useful, and the party often depends on it before venturing too close to their goblin prey.

3 Holy Light

One of the most often used miracles in the series, holy light, is essentially a flash-bang grenade in the world of Goblin Slayer. Holy light represents a prime example of how Goblin Slayer and Priestess use creativity to maximize the effect of miracles.

The strongest adventurer in Goblin Slayer is shrouded in a lot of mystery. Here's all there is to know about her.

Goblin Slayer almost immediately recognizes the power of a flash of bright light against goblins who are used to the dark depths of their cavernous homes, instructing Priestess to use the spell in a way that it likely was never meant to be used. Despite normally serving as a simple torch, holy light has proven over and over again that a quick stun can be deadly if there’s a skilled swordsman behind it.

2 Purify

Another miracle that Priestess has yet to show off in the anime is one that requires a bit of creativity to be very useful. Using purify, Priestess can change substances to be “pure,” and in the light novel, she uses this to change an enemy’s blood to water, killing them.

Like a more extreme version of blood bending, the Earth Mother grants this miracle because otherwise Priestess and her group would likely have died. But with this granted miracle, the goddess serves a serious warning: don’t do that again. Purify is a miracle that, when used creatively, is so deadly that the Earth Mother considers it sacrilege!

1 Protection

Protection is just straight-up OP. Used frequently throughout the series, this magic barrier is basically impenetrable, yet allows objects to pass through from the protected side, something that High Elf Archer takes full advantage of. Protection is aptly named, keeping the party safe from all kinds of threats, including a fully-sized ogre and a blast from a beholder, or a “giant eye” as it’s called in the series.

Though it’s visible to viewers, the show clarifies that the barrier is invisible, a fact that the creative duo, Goblin Slayer and Priestess, take advantage of as much as possible. Protection has been the cause of death for droves of enemies, from individual goblins all the way up to one of the strongest enemies in the series, a goblin lord.

Goblin Slayer is available to stream on Crunchyroll.
