Episode Breakdown

Zom 100 wine and dine

Picking up with Akira and Kencho, the episode starts out with the two camping out on a roof in Tokyo. This is one of Akira’s many items on his bucket list. While listening to the two banter about who is better at what Kencho points out this is why Akira never gets a date. Pride-injured Akira claims he’d get a date by the end of the day. Of course, Akira would first need to find a living woman among the horde of undead.

Alongside Akira’s quest to find a date, Kencho decides to add some of his own items to the bucket list. He’s with Akira all the way wanting to live out his dreams and greatest wants just like his friend. Only Akira’s current goal is to get a widescreen TV for movie marathons. Though this idea of personal dreams does lead Akira to wonder what his dreams are, before he can think much farther Kencho and Akira are stopped.

The path they normally would take to the mall is blocked due to zombies and a runaway tanker truck. Using what he’s learned so far Akira makes a daring escape into the underground entrance of the mall. There they’re forced to hide in one of the mall stores by the horde of zombies inside the mall. The two are not alone, more survivors are taking refuge in the department store. Kencho is thankful to have found more survivors while Akira is excited that he might actually find a date in one day and get his flat screen.

While introducing themselves over drinks and food they gathered from the department store, something the duo sees as winning and dining, they discover that Reika, Maki, and Yukari are flight attendants. It appears that Akira is able to take off another item on his bucket list. Naturally, Akira has trouble reading the room and makes a fool of himself trying to talk with one of the girls, while Kencho seems like a natural. Of course, Akira doesn’t see this and instead ends up creating a drinking contest between himself and Kencho when trying to impress the girls.

Proceeding with their party games, Akira finds himself in the bathroom. He’s accepted that he probably hasn’t won a date, but then Yukari appears to comfort him. Is this his big chance to score a date? No, Yukari has a boyfriend and the one other male turned into a zombie and turned Reika into one as well. With two zombies trapped in the department store with them it doesn’t take long for their numbers to dwindle. Before leaving, Kencho and Akira grab a flat screen to add to their base.

Let's Get Dates

Zom 100 episode 4 Kencho and Maki

This episode of Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead started out similar to the others. Akira has a new item on his list he wants to check off. Except this time his friend Kencho has him thinking about two things. The first is the fact that he can never score a date, something viewers see firsthand when trying to talk with the flight attendants. The second is something that sticks with Akira a bit long. What is Akira’s dream job?

As seen from the episode Akira doesn’t really think about this too much after discovering the survivors. Mainly because he sees this as an opportunity to score a date and wine and dine some flight attendants. It's clear at first that the two groups have different goals. Kencho and Akira want dates and the others want to forget. With the help of alcohol though the two groups end up having fun. This is on theme with the show of Akira helping people around him enjoy life to it's fullest while you still have it, but something else happens that is a little different.

Akira also changes after speaking with Yukari. Expressing her love for her job makes Akira wonder what his dream job would be. Before Akira was more or less going through the motions of finding a good job and working hard, but he hasn’t experienced what Kencho and Yukari have for their dream jobs. Akira has never had the desire to find a job because it makes you happy. This element adds a layer to the overall story but Akira as well. Fans get to watch Akira finally discover who he is now that he doesn’t have the concerns of normal everyday life. It will be interesting to see what Akira gravitates to in the coming episodes.

Until then fans can stream Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead on Netflix & Crunchyroll.
