There are some great Attack role characters in Zenless Zone Zero, and the enigmatic shark girl Ellen stands out as a fast-moving Ice-imbued powerhouse among the crowd. Part of the Victoria Housekeeping Faction, the fishy Ellen Jo uses a large pair of scissors to deal immense amounts of Ice Damage to her enemies. Thanks to her unique Roaming Hunt mechanic, Ellen is capable of effortlessly "swimming" across the battlefield and stands out as one of the faster characters in Zenless Zone Zero. Ellen has a unique mechanic compared to some of the other Attack characters present in Zenless Zone Zero. By holding down or double-tapping Dash, Ellen will enter "Roaming Hunt." In this state, her movement speed is greatly increased, and she gains access to a special Dash Attack: Arctic Ambush. Tapping the Basic Attack button during Roaming Hunt will unleash the basic version of Arctic Ambush, which will perform a slash, followed by an open scissor strike that deals Ice Damage. Ellen will also gain a single Flash Freeze charge if this attack hits. Players can perform an upgraded version of this that ends with a charged scissor strike by holding down the Basic Attack button instead. This variant has a longer wind-up but comes with a greater reward. Landing the charged strike will deal massive Ice Damage and reward Ellen with 3 Flash Freeze charges. During the wind-up of this attack, Ellen's Anti-Interrupt is increased and she receives a 40% Damage Reduction.
Ellen can hold up to 6 Flash Freeze charges at a time. When Flash Freeze is active, each Basic Attack will consume a Flash Freeze charge and deal Ice Damage. Players should focus on building up her Flash Freeze charges by performing her Dash Attack: Arctic Ambush (her EX Special Attack: Sharknami will also gain one Flash Freeze charge upon hitting an enemy) and then unleashing a barrage of Basic Attacks to deal additional Ice Damage to her enemies.

Ellen Best W-Engine In ZZZ - Zenless Zone Zero
Ellen stands as an S-Rank character and her banner includes her own S-Rank W-Engine, Deep Sea Visitor. This weapon is a must-have for those looking to get the most out of Ellen's Ice Damage, as it increases her base Ice Damage by a hefty 25% at base. It will also also increase her Crit Rate by 10% for 8 seconds when she hits an enemy with a Basic Attack. This goes further if Ellen deals Ice Damage with a Dash Attack, giving her an additional 10% Crit Rate for 8 seconds, stacking. These buffs are calculated separately. Since players will be using Dash Attack: Arctic Ambush to deal Ice Damage and build Flash Freeze stacks often, this makes the weapon capable of upkeeping a constant additional 20% Crit Rate buff.
Players who don't manage to secure her S-Rank weapon can still find some solid A-Rank options. Cannon Rotor will see a flat 7.5% Attack Increase at base and will also deal an additional 200% of Ellen's Attack as damage whenever she lands a Critical Hit (this effect can happen every 8 seconds). This W-Engine also increases Crit Rate by 20%. Starlight Engine is another good A-Rank option as it will increase Ellen's Attack, and will buff her Attack an additional 12% for 12 seconds each time she activates a Quick Assist or Dodge Counter. Early on, players can even get good mileage out of the B-Rank W-Engine [Lunar] Pleniluna, as it will buff Ellen's already hard-hitting Dash Attack: Arctic Ambush by an additional 12%
Ellen Best Drive Discs In ZZZ - Zenless Zone Zero
Since Ellen's main gimmick is inflicting heaps of Ice Damage, players will want to target a 4-piece Polar Metal set. The 2-piece bonus for Polar Metal will increase the shark girl's Ice DMG by 10%, but the real meat and potatoes come from the 4-piece bonus. With 4 pieces equipped, Ellen's Basic Attacks and Dash Attacks, including her ever-important Dash Attack: Arctic Ambush, see a 20% damage increase. Whenever a squad member inflicts an enemy with Freeze or Shatter, an additional 20% damage buff (stacking to 40% total) is applied for 12 seconds.
When it comes to the remaining 2-piece set, players can either opt for an additional 8% Crit Rate bump via Woodpecker Electro or go for a flat 10% Attack increase via Hormone Punk. When building Ellen for an optimal setup, players should target Crit Rate on Drive 4 (or Crit Damage if Ellen's Crit Rate is at a high rate via other sources), Ice Damage on Drive 5, and Attack% on Drive 6. Substat priority should always target Crit Rate, Crit Damage, Attack%, and even PEN if available.
