There are a lot of strange, new terms in Zenless Zone Zero, and it's hard not to be confused at first. Residual Signals and Fading Signals are only two of the new names players need to wrap their head around, but for anyone who has played any of the previous HoYoverse games, these currency types should be very familiar in practice.

Getting Residual Signals and Fading Signals is neither hard nor complicated, but it is pretty expensive. However, if you're trying to pull Zenless Zone Zero characters like Ellen or Grace, you'll be glad that you spent all your tapes.

While fans of previous Hoyoverse titles might be familiar with some of these, here are some beginner tips to help newcomers.

How To Get Residual Signal And Fading Signal In Zenless Zone Zero

Nekomata in a 10 pull screen in Zenless Zone Zero

The only way to get both Residual and Fading Signals is to roll in any of Zenless Zone Zero's Signal Search banners. These currencies are also present in HoYoverse's previous gacha game releases, albeit with different names. With that said, you likely won't get either of these signals if you don't pull in any banner, as they cannot be found in chests nor are they given as rewards for commissions.

The type and amount of signals you get depends on what you pull:

  • Residual Signal: 8 for every A-rank character or W-Engine
  • Fading Signal: 20 for every B-rank W-Engine

Assuming that this system works exactly like the one in Honkai: Star Rail, expect to get 20 Residual Signal every time you get excess copies of an A-rank character.

The Residual Signal Shop screen in Zenless Zone Zero

Players can spend the signals they earn at the Signal Shop. Go to the game menu by pressing the button in the upper left corner of your screen, then look for the Store button at the bottom bar. Then, look for the Signal Shop tab. You'll see all the items you can buy using your Residual or Fading Signals here. For reference, here are all the things that are available as of Zenless Zone Zero's launch:

Players can't go wrong with just going for Encrypted Master Tapes whenever they get enough Residual or Fading Signals, especially if they plan on rerolling their ZZZ account. However, for those who want to cut down on the RNG, saving Residual Signals for W-Engines and characters is always an option.

Signal Shop stock refreshes monthly. The featured characters in the Residual Shop store will rotate, giving players the chance to earn additional copies without rolling in the gacha banners.
