A Zelda fan has stumbled on an intriguing piece of artwork related to Twilight Princess during a visit to their local Goodwill store. While many Nintendo gamers are focused on the recently released Tears of the Kingdom, this unusual Twilight Princess piece has gained traction on the internet, evidencing the nostalgia many have for the classic game.
Even though it might be hard to believe, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess was released over 16 years ago. The game launched in 2006 for the GameCube and the Wii, introducing players to a more graphically detailed version of Hyrule. As a result, Link and the rest of the characters had more realistic designs compared to the cel-shaded cartoon look used in The Wind Waker. At the time, this new art style stood out to numerous gamers and helped the game become fondly remembered.
One gamer known as Shadow_Edgehog27 on Reddit recently came across artwork related to the game while visiting Goodwill. According to a Reddit post shared by the user, they had found a Twilight Princess print that featured Link and Midna. Specifically, the artwork had a splattered paint styling, with Midna riding on the back of Wolf Link. In addition to showing off the print, the Reddit user included a picture of the back of the frame, showcasing a sticker for the Elizabethan Gallery in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Besides the label, several numbers were written on the back, including one which was possibly the price the print sold for originally; that total was $259.99.
While Shadow_Edgehog27 wanted to share the intriguing picture with The Legend of Zelda community on Reddit, they also hoped to learn some background information on the piece. Fortunately, some users in the comment section managed to discover more details about the art. For example, one gamer pointed out that the design seemed to copy a pose seen in official Nintendo art for Twilight Princess, noting that the “transformative part of the work” was the splatter effect. Beyond that, another user suggested that Shadow_Edgehog27 should contact the gallery on the back of the frame to see if it had any records of the sale.
This unusual Goodwill discovery comes as Zelda fans hope for a potential Switch release for Twilight Princess. While the game received a remaster for the Wii U in 2016, bringing improved graphics and some quality-of-life improvements to the gameplay, there has been no official announcement for a port to the hybrid Nintendo console. Nevertheless, posts like Shadow_Edgehog27's evidence that fans still have fond memories of this installment in the series.
