A creative fan and movie enthusiast has recreated Godzilla in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom using a combination of Zonai devices and materials. In Tears of the Kingdom, players have access to a giant sandbox that grants them the freedom to go almost anywhere or build anything. This is thanks to Link’s new abilities, such as Ultrahand and Fuse, as well as a wide variety of useful materials called Zonai devices that aid Link in his journey to take down Ganondorf.

Players can use Zonai devices for several broadly different basic functions like traversal and combat. However, these newly introduced devices can be used to solve puzzles as well as make all sorts of innovative creations. For instance, one player has recreated an Angry Birds catapult that can take on a monster base and send Bokoblins flying. While Tears of the Kingdom does not have new game+, making replayability limited, being able to come up with inventive ways to interact with the world of Hyrule makes the game an enjoyable experience long after players have defeated the final boss and the end credits have rolled.

As if having their village taken over and destroyed by an army of monsters teaming up was not enough, Lurelin residents had to defend their homes against an attack from Godzilla. A Twitter user, known as sumoguri2323, has posted a video showcasing a recreation of the kaiju attacking the idyllic Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom coastal settlement using a flame-based ability and its tail as a weapon. The video, which also has music and sound effects accompanying it, begins with Godzilla making its way out of the sea and approaching the village. While the villagers fought against the kaiju with Zonai-made tanks that utilized laser-based attacks, they ultimately failed against its enormous might.

Coincidentally, sumoguri2323’s creation also resembles another iconic and gigantic lizard, the Green Ranger’s Zord from Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. The video quickly gained popularity on Twitter, receiving around 19 thousand likes and some users saying it’s a fantastic piece of cinema, which is on brand as Godzilla is considered a highly influential horror franchise.

Videos like this one of Godzilla’s hilarious rampages show not only the immense creativity of fans but also the nearly limitless sandbox filled with possibilities that Nintendo has created. The game’s influence has now widened with its revolutionary building mechanics, leading to a University of Maryland professor creating a Tears of the Kingdom-inspired mechanical engineering course. With The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom's impact, it is no wonder that it is one of Nintendo’s highly nominated titles at The Game Awards 2023.
