Nintendo has released update 1.2.1 for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom earned near-universal acclaim when it first launched earlier this year. But even so, there's always room for improvement. Nintendo is aware of this and has issued multiple updates for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom since the game's initial launch, addressing lingering issues and fixing exploits.

Updates for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom haven't added any new content to the game. They have almost been exclusively focused on squashing bugs. That holds true for update 1.2.1, which is available for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom fans to download right now.

The latest update for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom fixes an issue where the screen would flicker when players put a lot of stamps on the map, a problem where players weren't able to loot treasure chests attached to Flux Constructs, and an issue where an event wouldn't trigger after players collected all the Bubbul Gems. "Several other issues" have also been fixed with The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom update 1.2.1, though specifics on those particular problems were not provided in the patch notes.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom fans will no doubt appreciate this new update, though some may be anxious for the game to get something more substantial. After all, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild received significant post-launch support in the form of premium DLC that expanded on the already-massive experience. Fans have been anticipating something similar for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, but nothing to that effect has actually been announced at the time of this writing.

Events where such a reveal could take place have come and gone with no sign of Tears of the Kingdom DLC. This includes the latest Nintendo Direct presentation as well as Gamescom Opening Night Live. Rumor has it that another Nintendo Direct event could be happening at some point in September. If that's the case, perhaps Tears of the Kingdom DLC could make an appearance there. Fans of the franchise will need to keep an eye out.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Update 1.2.1 Patch Notes

Fixed Issues

  • Fixed an issue that sometimes caused the screen to flicker intensely when large amounts of stamps were placed on the Map.
  • Fixed an issue that prevented players from obtaining the contents of treasure chests attached to Flux Constructs when the treasure chests vanished as a result of the Flux Construct’s attacks.
    • If the treasure chest vanished, reloading the save data will either restore the treasure chest or cause the chest’s contents to automatically appear in your Pouch.
  • If a certain event does not trigger when talking to Koltin after collecting all of the Bubbul Gems, downloading this update data will fix it so that the event triggers.
  • Several other issues have been addressed to improve the gameplay experience.
