Games exclusive to the Nintendo Switch share a high pedigree, and here is a ranking of the best titles available on the console.

While Tears of the Kingdom was praised for its new and improved plot line that revealed plenty of exciting new information about Hyrule, it still left audiences with several intriguing questions that were never answered. This is par for the course for The Legend of Zelda franchise, and we can never be sure if these mysteries will be resolved in the near future or if fans will be left in the dark.

9 Who Was The Ancient Hero?

The Ancient Hero from Zelda Tears of the Kingdom

In Breath of the Wild, players were shown an important tapestry with images of an ancient hero sealing Calamity Ganon over 1,000 years ago. While the initial conclusion might be to assume this is Link, the tapestry itself showed an unusual hero, with green skin and long, red hair. Weird, but fans didn’t think too much of it at the time.

In Tears of the Kingdom, after going through the challenging task of completing all 152 Shrines in the game, players can unlock an armor set called Ancient Hero's Aspect, which gives them a closer look at this mysterious character. We can assume he’s a Zonai, but who was he exactly? How it is that we never found out what happened to such an important character? This is definitely the biggest unsolved mystery of the franchise so far.

8 Who Was Rauru & Sonia’s Child?

King Rauru and Queen Sonia from Zelda Tears of the Kingdom

During the events of the game’s plot, Princess Zelda travels back in time and meets King Rauru and Queen Sonia, a Zonai and a Hylian respectively. What's even weirder is that they both specify Zelda is their descendant.

This is so intriguing because we never see Rauru and Sonia’s offspring, nor they are ever mentioned at any point during the game. Since Sonia later dies at the hands of Ganondorf, this is left unanswered: did they have a kid off-screen and/or before the events of the game? Was the Ancient Hero their son?

7 What Happened To The Tribe Behind The Barbarian Set?

The Barbarian Armor Set, as seen in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom

In Breath of the Wild, players could find and equip a set of armor known as the Barbarian Set, which had an intriguing description that mentioned “an ancient warlike tribe from the Faron region”. When the Zonai Tribe in Tears of the Kingdom was first revealed, many assumed that they were the creators of this outfit.

Finding the best armor TotK has to offer can have a huge impact on the player's overall experience, both when it comes to difficulty and enjoyment.

However, it’s quite obvious that the Zonai were not the tribe responsible for the Barbarian armor, as they inhabit Hyrule Field and their technology does not match the description written in the Barbarian Set. Is it possible that there was another ancient tribe that inhabited Hyrule even before the Zonai came down to the land? Are they extinct?

6 What’s The Race Depicted In The Statues In The Depths?

The Statue with a raised arm in the Depths, as seen in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom

Tears of the Kingdom players had to through the 'Camera Work in the Depths' quest in order to unlock the Camera. Once the player manages to take a picture of the statue with a raised arm, Robbie claims that we made a big discovery that could lead to truly understanding what the Depths are.

The thing is, players never really find out what this actually was. Similar statues that depict the many races of Hyrule can be found all throughout the Depths. However, the initial statue shows creature that cannot be found anywhere else. Most fans theorize that they were the Mogma, a tribe of mole people from Skyward Sword, and they inhabited the underground a long time ago.

5 Why Can’t The Sheikah Build More Guardians And Divine Beasts?

A Divine Beast and a guardian from Zelda Breath of the Wild

Coming from Breath of the Wild, the absence of every piece of Sheikah technology that could be previously found in Hyrule (like Towers, Guardians, and the Divine Beasts) was extremely odd. It seems like everything was either replaced by Zonai tech or wiped entirely from the map.

In an interview, Director Hidemaro Fujibayashi clarified that the Sheikah tech disappeared after the defeat of Calamity Ganon and the inhabitants of Hyrule just didn’t bother to search for it. But this answer left fans unsatisfied because it didn’t make much sense, seeing as the Skyview Towers built by Purah clearly have Sheikah tech in them that is similar to the Guardians. So why can’t Purah and Robbie just rebuild everything? The Guardians and the Divine Beasts would have definitely been useful this time around.

4 What Are The Identities Of The Three Roaming Dragons?

Dinraal the dragon and the Ember Armor Set, as seen in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom

Tears of the Kingdom introduces players to the concept of Draconification, in which a person can turn into a dragon after they consume a Secret Stone. Princess Zelda does this and becomes one of the dragons that roam the skies of Hyrule, joining Dinraal, Farosh, and Naydra from the previous game.

Does this mean that the other roaming dragons used to be people at some point? If we compare their appearance to that of Zelda’s Light Dragon form, it’s clear that they were not Hylian, but it is most likely they were Zonai. Link can also find 3 new armor sets with designs based on Dinraal, Farosh, and Naydra. Maybe these were the clothes they used to wear? Fans have gone crazy trying to figure out who these dragons used to be, filling the internet with theories and fan art.

3 Does The Triforce Exist In This timeline?

Link holding the Master Sword in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom

The Triforce is arguably the most iconic symbol in The Legend of Zelda franchise. Isn’t it weird that it was never mentioned in either Breath of the Wild or Tears of the Kingdom? Yes, this is an abstract concept that almost never appears in a physical form, but it's name-dropped in most titles, so the fact these new games barely try to acknowledge its existence is very intriguing.

The Master Sword is present in almost every major Zelda game, with some appearances standing out as more memorable and satisfying than others.

The weirdest of all is that some form of the Triforce exists in Tears of the Kingdom, since the symbol can be found all throughout Hyrule: It's heavily featured in the blade of the Master Sword, but Queen Sonia even has a Triforce tattoo on her arm. So the Triforce clearly exists in this world, but it has never been passed down as a legend like it was in previous games, and fans wonder why it's kept under wraps.

2 Where's Kass?

Kass talking to Link in Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Remember Kass, the charismatic Rito musician who helped players during Breath of the Wild? When Tears of the Kingdom was finally released, returning players were eager to reunite with this iconic character. But they were shocked to find out that Kass is nowhere to be seen in the sequel.

Both games do take place during the same timeline, and Kass is even mentioned by a few characters in-game. He was such a big part of the previous adventure that it is unusual that he's absent from this one. Where did Kass go? Did he travel to another land in order to write even more songs? While Penn was another memorable character that we befriended in this game, he was no replacement for good old Kass.

1 What Happened To Master Kohga?

Master Kohga's defeat in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

The Legend of Zelda is no stranger to having weird & hilarious characters, and Master Kohga, the Leader of the Yiga Clan is a perfect example of this. In this game, we can find him thriving in the Depths, after the hilarious events of his side quest in Breath of the Wild.

After many more battles, players can witness a Cutscene in which Master Kohga is fired off into the surface because of a malfunctioning construct. Are we ever going to see him again? Many fans were wondering if he was going to play a part in a future DLC pack but, with the recent news that there’s currently no DLC in development, it's possible that they'll have to wait until a brand-new game is released.
