The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild players have taken a poll regarding which of the game's Champions they'd least like to see in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. The Champions in Breath of the Wild play a major role in the Nintendo Switch game, not only as part of the game's story but also through introducing key game mechanics. That doesn't mean that Breath of the Wild players like them all, though, or that they want to see them again in Tears of the Kingdom.
There is no confirmation at this time that the Champions will be returning in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. If anything, it appears that there will be new Champions in the sequel, with four different characters showcased in Tears of the Kingdom's recent trailer. It's not impossible to imagine Nintendo bringing back one, several, or all of the Champions in some capacity, though.
YouTuber ZackScottGames decided to poll his audience of Zelda fans on the topic. Instead of asking who they most wanted to see back, however, he asked which of the Champions "should be sealed away forever." It's a bit of a cruel question, but apparently, it was one Zelda fans found cathartic. They overwhelmingly voted for Revali to be absent from Tears of the Kingdom.
While Breath of the Wild fans largely agreed that the ability Revali unlocks for Link is one of if not the best in the game, his character was widely criticized. He's described as an arrogant jerk that's mean to Link for no good reason. Meanwhile, Mipha, Urbosa, and Daruk have much warmer personalities and interesting relationships with Link. Revali received 67% of the vote, whereas Daruk was at 13%, Urbosa at 10%, and fan-favorite Mipha settled at just 9%.
In The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild the four Champions are prophesied to pilot the Sheikah's giant mechanical Divine Beasts. These Champions, Daruk the Goron, Mipha the Zora, Revali of the Rito, and Urbosa the Gerudo, meet a bitter end in their endeavor. Link's journey in Breath of the Wild involves freeing the spirits of the Champions and getting to know Link's history with them through Memories and sidequests exploring their history.
It's unclear exactly how long after Breath of the Wild that Tears of the Kingdom takes place, but it seems unlikely the Champions' spirits would linger after defeating Calamity Ganon. Still, that Link was able to bring back their spirits after the Champions died shows that it could happen again. Mipha, Urbosa, Daruk, and Revali could have a role in Tears of the Kingdom yet. If they do, it's unlikely any of them will be left out, but maybe Nintendo has just as low of an opinion of Revali as the fanbase does.
