One Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom player hits a stumbling block when their impressive Zonai machine fails to hit a group of enemies in Nintendo’s latest open-world adventure. Thanks to the build mechanics introduced into Tears of the Kingdom, players have been busy creating various contraptions ever since the game was released in May 2023.

In the early days of Link’s latest adventure, a small selection of players created torture devices at the detriment of Koroks, the cute woodland creatures players find around Hyrule. As time has gone on, the machines created by the community are becoming more creative, such as a ridiculously tall aquatic vehicle for traversing Tears of the Kingdom. Not all contraptions work as intended, with one player posting a video showcasing how wrong things can go.

Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Player Builds Deadly Gunship

An extremely prolific Tears of the Kingdom engineer builds what they dubbed their 'best gunship' to date in the latest Zelda game.

Reddit user Jogswyer1 attempted to build a Zonai machine within Tears of the Kingdom that consisted of rockets and time bombs, with the aim of taking out a camp of unsuspecting Bokoblins. In a video posted to the r/HyruleEngineering subreddit, the player shows Link activating the contraption, but things go quickly awry. As the weapon shoots towards its target, it swerves off course, breaks apart, and pieces start spinning off in all directions. Viewers can see that the enemies are very much alive, albeit mildly confused about the events unfolding.

While the machine fails to annihilate all the enemies, Jogswyer1 is undeterred, and a second attempt at their target is made, which yields a similar result. The replies to the video applaud the original poster for their efforts and reaffirm that not everything in Tears of the Kingdom always goes to plan. Some gamers are also offering advice on how to make the mobile bombing machine more effective, including attaching a Korok for good measure.

The weapon from Jogswyer1 may not have worked as intended, but it seems players are still finding unique ways to build helpful machines to take on enemies. Recently, one player created a clever weapon to take on one of Tears of the Kingdom’s more frustrating bosses. The device utilized a hydrant sitting atop a spinning wheel to ensure the sludge left by Mucktorock was out of Link’s way while he attacked the tricky enemy.

Players seem to enjoy the freedom of creating various machines within Hyrule, even if things don’t always go as expected. It’s just as well that Nintendo has developed a game rich in building mechanics as the developers have confirmed that there are no current plans for Tears of the Kingdom DLC, but they are focusing on what comes next for The Legend of Zelda franchise.
