In yet another awe-inspiring example of the freedom players have in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, someone recently built an impressive mechanical sea serpent for exploring the waters of Hyrule. Even a year after The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom launched on the Nintendo Switch to much acclaim, fans are still taking advantage of the game’s in-depth crafting mechanics to build incredible machines that can either carry Link across Tears of the Kingdom’s large open world or engage in humorous distractions from the quest to defeat Ganondorf and save the land from certain destruction.

The possibilities of Link’s powerful Ultrahand ability are as vast as Hyrule itself, as evidenced by the sheer variety of contraptions that players have made and shared across social media since Tears of the Kingdom launched last May. Some of the more recent examples include an impressive aircraft carrier and a small bomber to launch it from, an equally awe-inspiring battle cruiser armed with explosive Zonai cannons, and a biplane that can carry Link through the skies above Hyrule in Tears of the Kingdom.

One industrious Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom player utilizes Zonai devices and planks to build a functional cruiser.

Reddit user kmarkow recently showed off their own spike-covered Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom creation on r/HyruleEngineering, a subreddit devoted to the many contraptions players have built using Ultrahand and whatever Link has lying around. In this case, it’s a large water vehicle resembling a sea serpent, complete with a rotating head and multiple turbines to carry Link across the waters of Hyrule. It also sports a powerful Zonai laser on its head that automatically fires on any enemies that dare swim into Link’s path, and it can travel on dry land as well.

Tears of the Kingdom Player’s Mechanical Sea Serpent Rules the Waters of Hyrule

Plenty of other Reddit users have praised kmarkow for their work, with some even playfully comparing their custom sea serpent to the mythical Loch Ness monster or something that the late Dr. Seuss would create. Kmarkow has shared many other stunning Tears of the Kingdom contraptions, such as a large mechanical bird, a tyrannosaurus rex-inspired mech, and even a deadly spiral vehicle made from the jaws of the massive Colgera that guards Tears of the Kingdom’s Wind Temple.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has managed to sell over 20 million copies in just the past year alone, and a major part of the game’s popularity is the flexibility it affords players like kmarkow through its versatile object and vehicle-crafting mechanics. These tools continue to give players a reason to come back to The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom while they wait for Echoes of Wisdom to launch on the Switch this September.
