Another The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom player has built a mech, with this one having a close resemblance to the robot from Robocop. Tears of the Kingdom gives Link several new abilities that have unlocked the imaginations of players, leading to the creation of hundreds of incredible devices that radically alter the gameplay experience.
Once one player shared evidence online of the mech they built using the new slate of tools and powers in Tears of the Kingdom, the floodgates opened. Suddenly man players with patience, time on their hands, and a lot of in-game resources were building and showing off their own variations on the theme. From weird snake mechs in Tears of the Kingdom to mechs ripped straight from the pages of an Iron Man comic, players have been finding new and unique ways to build piloted battle bots to quickly dispatch anything Hyrule has to throw at them.
The newest version of the Tears of the Kingdom mech concept comes from a Reddit user named Huydeptrai0794. They posted a video clip in the Tears of the Kingdom subreddit of a mech that looks an awful lot like ED-209, the autonomous mech built by the evil Omni Consumer Products corporation from the Robocop franchise, which is soon to be a video game itself. ED-209 famously malfunctions during a demonstration in front of Omni executives, brutally murdering one person in the process. Link probably won’t experience such a misfortune.
Huydeptrai0794 constructed the ED-209 look-a-like almost entirely out of mine carts, which can be found in the Goron-populated area of Eldin to the northeast of Hyrule. Like ED-209, Huydeptrai0794’s mech has two weapons mounted beside its head. A Zonai Canon on the right and a Zonai Beam Emitter on the left. The mech’s legs pivot back behind its torso before jutting downward like a chicken’s legs, with large tires acting as the hip joints that allow the legs to take steps. One clever little design choice was to give the mech an Achilles heel that’s made of a Zonai Stabilizer. The stabilizer provides balance while also providing structure between the mech’s foot and leg. Overall, it’s reminiscent of other mechs clever Tears of the Kingdom players have built, with the unique twist of being entirely autonomous.
Tears of the Kingdom players have gone all-out in their attempts to top the mech designs that came before them. The latest innovation from Huydeptrai0794 ups the ante by being entirely self-piloted, leaving Link free to roam freely and observe his destruction from afar. With no Robocop on the monsters' side, their only hope for survival lies with how long Huydeptrai0794's Zonai battery cells will last.
