An inventive Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom player has recreated a gripping Pokemon battle using a variety of Zonai devices, monster parts, and materials found in the overworld. Tears of the Kingdom broke sales records less than two months after release and has, by all accounts, been a success story for Nintendo thanks to the freedom the game gives players.
Now, months later, fans are still finding creative ways to spend their time in the nearly limitless sandbox, whether by finding ingenious ways to get around the map or using bees to beat one of Tears of the Kingdom’s most potent enemies. With the addition of Zonai devices, players have at their disposal equipment that can be used for a multitude of tasks. When combined with the versatility of the new abilities such as Autobuild and Ultrahand, Tears of the Kingdom players are only limited by their imagination.
A user going by the handle Justakingastroll posted a video on the Tears of the Kingdom subreddit showcasing a Pokemon battle between the robotic steel type, Metagross, and the pseudo-legendary dragon type, Garchomp, complete with the all too familiar battle theme of the series. Both Pokemon were created by fusing Zonai devices like the small wheel, sled, stabilizer, and stake and monster parts from some of Tears of the Kingdom's most formidable enemies, such as the Silver Lynel and Lizalfos. Justakingastroll showcases the range of Metagross’ and Garchomp’s attacks using Zonai devices like the flame emitter to represent the fire move, flamethrower, and even cleverly combines what looks to be a claymore-type weapon and the ability Recall, that rewinds time to simulate, Swords Dance.
The post was positively received in the subreddit, with users in the thread appreciating the amount of time and attention to detail, such as the animation of the various attack moves that Justakingastroll recreated. On the other hand, some users offered suggestions such as improving the Pokemon typing and what moves would be effective to make the video more immersive.
The crossover between Pokemon and Tears of the Kingdom is certainly nothing new, given that the games are both Nintendo franchises and there is a fanbase overlap. Since the release of Tears of the Kingdom, players have been recreating Pokemon such as Onix, and it is always interesting to see gamers' creativity in utilizing the game's mechanics and features. While there are currently no plans for a DLC, it is no surprise that fans would like a threequel to Tears of the Kingdom, with some hoping for a more urban approach to the next game.
