Returning fans of Breath of the Wild will notice that the Rito Elder, Kaneli, is nowhere to be seen in Tears of the Kingdom's Rito Village. Although Teba has taken on the mantle as Rito Elder, players can still find Kaneli if they visit the Flight Range. Speaking to him unlocks the side quest and minigame: Kaneli's Flight Training.

This side quest is used for farming money, but it's also a great way for new Tears of the Kingdom players to try gliding and diving. Players will be expected to use the paraglider and diving mechanic throughout their TotK journey. Thus, the Flight Range/Kaneli's Flight Training is a safe area for practicing.

Where is Kaneli? (Where is the Flight Range?)

Before players can take on the "Kaneli's Flight Training" side quest, they'll need to complete the main quest "Tulin of Rito Village." Once Link and Tulin defeat Colgera, players can head to the Flight Range (-3793, 2317, 0161). The best way of reaching the Flight Range is to leave from Rospro Pass Skyview Tower(-3684, 2343, 0233). However, players can also glide north from Rito Village to the Flight Range as well.

Players will need cold-resistant armor or a Chilly Elixir before attempting this side quest. Without it, the cold weather will slowly chip away at Link's health. Players can get the Snowquill Set from Rito Village .

Speak to Kaneli, and he'll volunteer Link for a flight training exercise. This side quest can be completed at any time, so there's no rush to get it done.

How to Complete Kaneli's Flight Training (Beginner Course)

Link will have 30 seconds to go through 15 rings around the Flight Range. There are a total of 20 rings, but players only need 15 to pass. Fortunately, all the rings are surrounding the Flight Range's center pillar.

The easiest way to complete this side quest is to rise above the stacked rings, then dive through them and repeating this process until Link has gone through (at least) 15 of them.

  1. Jump off the platform and glide over to the closest rings.
  2. Let the wind carry Link above the rings, then press R-button to dive through them.
  3. Open the paraglider again, and repeat steps 1-2 until all rings are collected.

If Link manages to succeed, Kaneli will give him 50 Rupees as a reward. He will also allow Link to take an "Advanced Course." Once "Kaneli's Flight Training" is completed, players can return as many times as they want. However, doing so will cost Link 20 Rupees per try.

Kaneli's Flight Training: Advanced Course

There isn't another side quest for the Flight Training's Advanced Course, so there's no reason to do it unless players need some more Rupees. Unlike the Beginner Course, the Advanced Course will give Link 50 seconds to fly through 35 Rings. He'll also have to pay the 20 Rupee fee.

The rings in the Advanced Course will be scattered around the Flight Range with some hidden under the pillars. They're also not stacked this time, meaning Link will have to be steered while diving.

While it's not required , it's highly recommended to get the Wingsuit/Glide Armor before attempting the Advanced Course. This will make it much easier to control Link while he's free-falling. Increase the Wingsuit Set to level 2, and Link won't take damage if he crash lands .

It's also a good idea to have an extra Stamina Bar, too.

The rings may be scattered this time, but players will find it easier to complete if they go clockwise:

  1. Glide through the first three rings, then go left and circle around (while diving/gliding through rings) from there.
  2. Float up through the rings when using the updraft.
  3. Press R-button to dive, but don't hold down R-button unless the rings are lined up.

Kaneli's Advanced Course reward will vary based on Link's performance:

  • If Link manages to get less than 30 rings, he'll receive 50 Rupees.
  • If Link manages to get 30-34 rings, Kaneli will give him 100 Rupees.
  • If he manages to get all 35, he'll receive 300 Rupees *.

* The 300 Rupee reward is locked to completing the Advanced Course for the first time. Any future attempts, Link will get 100 Rupees instead of 300 for going through all rings.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is available for Nintendo Switch.
