The Lightscale Trident is one of four Champion Weapons seen in both Breath of the Wild and now its sequel Tears of the Kingdom that were used by the previous Champions of that time period. Urbosa used the Scimitar of the Seven, Daruk used the Boulder Breaker, Revali used the Great Eagle Bow, and Mipha used the Lightscale Trident.

8 2023 Nintendo Switch Games That Should Get Halloween DLC

With Halloween fast approaching, these 2023 Nintendo Switch games could benefit from a themed DLC.

Now, in Tears of the Kingdom, these weapons are being used by their descendants and the new 'Sages' of each element Riju the Gerudo, Yunobo the Goron, Tulin the Rito, and Sidon the Zora. But, Link can also get a 'copy' of these weapons crafted for himself if he plays his cards right. So, let's go over exactly how players are meant to go about getting the Lightscale Trident specifically.

Updated October 27th, 2023 by Jacob Buchalter: Gathering the Legendary Armaments, otherwise known as the Champion Weapons in Tears of the Kingdom can be a bit of a big ask. Some of them are easier to obtain than others, such as Daruk's Boulder Breaker, while others like Urbosa's Scimitar of the Seven take a whole lot of work. Thankfully, the Zora's Champion Weapon, AKA Mipha's Lightscale Trident, sits right in the middle in terms of the amount of work required for it. And, as it turns out, this Trident is incredibly powerful, ranking among some of the best weapons in the game. So, let's go over how Link is meant to obtain it, in-depth.

Clean Up Zora's Domain First

Zelda Tears of the Kingdom - Sidon Being Sidon

First off, players will need to clean up Zora's Domain first with the help of Sidon before the Lightscale Trident really becomes 'available' to craft. This task is one of the four 'Regional Phenomena' Purah has asked Link to investigate in Hyrule, and cleaning up the Domain includes:

#

Step

Explanation

1

Clean The Muck-Covered Statue

Reach the main courtyard of Zora's Domain to see Yona speaking with two other Zora about the statue of the statue behind. Talk to Yona and then clean the statue using a Splash Fruit (or any other water-generating method).

2

Get Directions From Yona

After cleaning the statue of Link and Sidon, Link will automatically be pulled into a scene where he's introduced to Yona and she points him to Mipha's Court at the top of Ploymus Mountain

3

Find & Meet With Sidon

Getting to the top of Ploymus Mountain isn't too bad, but Link will likely have to approach the path from behind. Once he reaches the top, he'll be able to meet with Sidon again for the first time since Breath of the Wild. After a brief conversation, he'll have you meet with another Zora named Jiahto at Toto Lake.

4

Solving the Land of the Sky Fish's Riddle

Work with Jiahto to fix the broken slate near Toto Lake using Link's new abilities. Doing so will reveal some ancient script detailing how to use the Floating Scale Island to reach Wellspring Island's Water Temple.

5

Return to Sidon & Find King Dorephan

After receiving this riddle, head back to Sidon and he'll tell Link to go ask his father in the Throne Room. However, once Link reaches the Throne Room of Zora's Domain, he'll see there is only a small group of kids there. Eavesdrop on their conversation to see where King Dorephan really is. After finding the Pristine Sactum, speak with the King to receive five of his illustrious scales.

6

Solve Floating Scale Island

Find a way up to the Floating Scale Island using whatever means possible. Find the spot near the island's hypothetical 'pectoral fin' and move around until the floating debris around the island lines up to create the shape of a water droplet. Fuse one of the King's scales onto any arrow, and fire it through this shape.

7

Using the Ancient Zora Waterworks to make a path to the sky

After Link's arrow points the way to the Ancient Zora Waterworks, head back to Sidon, fight a quick battle against a Sludge Like, then head to the Ancient Zora Waterworks with Sidon. Explore this place in full before finding a Zonai activation gate in the tower in the center. Turn this on, and a waterfall leading to Wellspring Island should appear.

8

Exploring the Water Temple alongside Sidon

After speaking with Yona and getting the Zora Armor from her using an ancient arowana, climb the waterfall (instead of crossing it) with Sidon to the Water Temple on Wellspring Island, and explore it in full.

9

Defeating the Mucktorock

At the end of the Temple is the main boss of the area, a very unique boss by the name of Mucktorock. With Sidon's help, defeat this muck-spewing creature.

10

Accepting Sidon's Vow

After all is said and done, just receive Sidon's Vow (and power) that he offers Link in the upcoming fight against Ganondorf, and players should then be able to go back to Dento in Zora's Domain to work on the Lightscale Trident.

After all of these relatively long tasks have been completed and Zora's Domain is back to the clear-water oasis it used to be, players can go to the room past the General Store to talk to Dento, the blacksmith who made the Lightscale Trident in BotW, and ask him to remake the Lightscale Trident again.

Talking To Dento

Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom - Dento Mentioning That He'll Need A Zora Spear

Once players have talked to Dento and begun his 'Glory of the Zora' Side Quest, this Zora Blacksmith will go over all the info needed such as the fact that he can remake the Trident, what he needs to do so, and how the weapon works. This is, of course, the same Trident that Mipha and now Sidon use, and it'll cost Link some precious resources to get one of his own.

To be specific, Dento needs 3 Diamonds, 5 Flint, and a regular or decayed Zora Spear to craft the Lightscale Trident in full.

Gather The Materials Dento Asks For

Legend of Zelda Tears Of The Kingdom - Dento Listing The Materials Needed To Craft Lightscale Trident

So, after speaking to Dento, Link now has his shopping list of materials needed to craft this illustrious spear. It's also worth noting that this is, in essence, the same list of materials needed to craft all of the Champion Weapons in each Region, except replace the Zora Spear with whatever regional variant weapon that zone has (Scimitar, Cobble Crusher, Eagle Bow) and add 2 more Diamonds for the Gerudo's Scimitar of the Seven. Now, let's go about gathering all these materials.

Material 1: Diamonds

Zelda Tears of the Kingdom - Putting A Diamond On An Arrow To Use The Duplication Glitch

Now, depending on how early in the game players go to Zora's Domain (a lot of players tend to head here first, for some reason), 3 Diamonds might be a huge ask. And, for those who (understandably) don't want to use exploits, there are some other ways to get Diamonds quickly:

Method

Explanation

Cave Spelunking

The act of searching through all the caves in TotK, looking for Ore Deposits with Diamonds inside.

Sensor+

Using Sensor+ to either search for Chests or Ore Deposits directly in the hopes either option will contain Diamonds.

Stone Taluses

Finding and farming Stone Talus spawn locations in the hopes the rocky creature will drop a Diamond (among other Ores) on death.

Dondons

Feeding Luminous Stones to Dondons and then coming back at a later time to see what they've 'made' with their food.

Side Quest & Shrine Rewards

Completing specific Side Quests or Zonai Shrines that are known to have a Diamond as a reward.

Material 2: Flint

Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom - Image Of Both A Regular And Rare Ore Deposit

For the next material needed, Flint, players should most likely already have between 30 and 99+ Flint on them by the time they talk to Dento. Flint is absurdly easy to acquire in Tears of the Kingdom, after all. All players need to do to get Flint is just look out for it while hunting Diamonds in Ore Deposits.

There's almost a 100 percent chance that they'll find the 5 Flint they'll need just by breaking, at most, 10 Ore Deposits. Flint, Amber, and Rock Salt are the three most common drops from these Deposits, so this is by far the quickest (and easiest) material to gather.

Material 3: Zora Spear

Finding a Zora Spear is right in the middle between Diamonds and Flint in terms of how difficult it is to acquire. However, thankfully, we've already covered in full how players should go about getting a Zora Spear in Tears of the Kingdom.

Craft The Trident & Learn All About It

Now that Link has all the Materials needed, it's time to head back to Dento and have him craft this weapon of Champions. Once the Lightscale Trident is crafted and Link has it in his hands, Dento will then go into the specifics of how there can only be one Lightscale Trident in existence at a time, so Link must break his current one before another can be made. Additionally, if it does break, to have it remade Link will need to bring those exact same materials to Dento all over again, which is a bummer.

How To Repair Weapons With Rock Octorocks

Thankfully, there is another method to repairing the Lightscale Trident other than breaking and remaking it. This isn't 'intended' by the developers exactly, but it's a method that absolutely works within the confines of the systems they created. And, funnily enough, despite how many duplication methods Nintendo has patched out of the game so far, this method to repair Legendary Armaments still absolutely works.

In the Eldin Mountains are a sub-species of Octorocks called Rock Octorocks. These things disguise themselves as...well...rocks and will pop out of the ground when Link isn't looking to launch projectiles at him. But, if Link puts a regular damaged weapon or shield on the ground near the Rock Octorok and then walks away with his back turned to it, the Octorok will suck it up, have some sparkly effects appear around it, and then fire the weapon back at Link completely repaired.

How To Repair Legendary Weapons With Rock Octorocks

Zelda Tears Of The Kingdom - Rock Octorok Sucking In And Repairing Weapon

All that said, this Rock Octorok method only works with regular weapons and is, by design, not meant to work with 'Legendary' Weapons which includes the Lightscale Trident. However, if players just simply fuse these weapons onto a standard shield of any sort and then drop that Fused Shield in front of the Octorock, it'll repair both the weapon fused to it (regardless of weapon rarity) and the shield when it spits it back out.

After this whole process is done, all players need to do is Fast Travel to Tarrey Town and go up to the teensy Goron next to the General Store named Pelison. Pelison does one thing, he breaks Fused items apart for the low low cost of 20 Rupees. Pay for his services and now, just like that, players have a completely repaired Lightscale Trident in their hands and all it cost was a bit of time and 20 measly Rupees.

Is The Lightscale Trident Worth All The Effort?

After all this work, effort, and time, is the Lightscale Trident even worth it? Yes, absolutely. Moreso than any other Champion Weapon (except maybe the Scimitar of the Seven with the Strong Fusion Trait), the Lightscale Trident is entirely overpowered in the right circumstances.

By default, the Lightscale Trident only has 22 Attack Power, but that's only in normal circumstances. As it turns out, the Lightscale Trident has the same unique Trait almost all Zora Weapons havecalled Water Warrior. With this Trait, the Attack Power of the Lightscale Trident literally doubles while Link is 'wet', and that includes whatever its Attack Power is after being Fused with another weapon/Material. And, to top it all off, the Lightscale Trident seems to have a pretty hefty amount of durability too. Still, the fact that Link needs to be dripping with water for this buff to be active is pretty silly or difficult to utilize, right? As it turns out, Sidon himself makes this whole process quite easy.

The power that Link gains from conquering the Water Temple is one that allows him to summon a pseudo-clone of Sidon who can cover Link in a protective bubble of water at Link's request. The important factor is that, after using this power once, Link will have the 'wet' status condition active for about a minute and a half, thereby doubling the power of his Lightscale Trident. This is more than enough time to slay whatever Link is fighting, and even if it does run out mid-fight all Link has to do is interact with Sidon's Avatar again to reset the duration.
