Ice-Breath Lizalfos are the counterpart to Fire-Breath Lizalfos. These creatures camouflage themselves in the snow to try and ambush Link. When they're defeated in Tears of the Kingdom, they have a low chance of dropping a monster part called an Ice-Breath Lizalfos Tail.
As their name indicates, Ice-Breath Lizalfos prefer colder climates. This means farming their tails can be a hassle if players don't have the right gear to combat the frigid temperatures. However, players will need to farm the Ice-Breath Lizalfos Tails in order to upgrade two armor sets in Tears of the Kingdom.
Where to Find Ice-Breath Lizalfos
According to the compendium, Ice-Breath Lizalfos appear in the Gerudo Highlands and the Hebra Mountains. Strangely enough, the Ice-Breath Lizalfos in the Gerudo Highlands only appear at night. During the day, players will find the Fire-Breath Lizalfos instead.
Since the Ice-Breath Lizalfos only appear in cold areas, Link will need to wear level 2 cold-resistant gear or have a level 2 cold-resistant meal/elixir effect. Armor can be upgraded by a Great Fairy, but players will need to have unlocked two Great Fairies to upgrade their armor to the appropriate level. Another way to ward off the cold is by wearing one piece of cold-resistant armor and equipping a fire weapon. This can be a melee weapon fused with a Ruby or an Igneo Talus Heart.
The Ice-Breath Lizalfos Tails can't be tracked with the Sensor+, but if players take a picture of an Ice-Breath Lizalfos, they can track them instead. This will make it easier to hunt down and farm the tails. Players can get the Camera from the side quest "Camera Work in The Depths" at Lookout Landing. They can then get the Sensor+ and the Hyrule Compendium from Robbie in the "Presenting Sensor+" side quest after clearing one of the "Regional Phenomena" main quests.
Ice-Breath Lizalfos are extremely weak to fire. They can be killed in one hit if they're struck by a Fire Fruit , Red Chuchu Jelly , or even taking a hit from Yunobo's Ability/Vow of Yunobo .
Gerudo Canyon (Night)
In the Gerudo Canyon, players will want to warp to the Gerudo Canyon Skyview Tower (-2423, -2202, 0302). If it isn't nighttime, set up a fire and wait until night. Then, walk (or glide from the tower) a bit southwest to find a camp of three Ice-Breath Lizalfos. There are more Ice-Breath Lizalfos around -2234, -2249, 0252. Finally, there are two camped outside the entrance to the Spectacle Rock Cave.
Be careful around Specatcle Rock when searching for Lizalfos. There's a Flame Gleeok nearby that won't hesitate to attack Link if it sees him.
Hebra Mountains
Ice-Breath Lizalfos tend to prefer the areas of North Hebra such as the North Hebra Crest. There are three Ice-Breath Lizalfos in the Hebra Mountains near the Eutoum Shrine (-3506, 3570, 0387). This is located in the Goflam's Secret Hot Spring. Look to the nearby pillars to find Ice-Breath Lizalfos at these coordinates:
- -3456, 3569, 0391
- -3420, 3547, 0403
If players decide to climb down the northern side of the mountains, they will find another Ice-Breath Lizalfos at -3160, 3464, 0238.
Where to use Ice-Breath Lizalfos Tails
Ice-Breath Lizalfos Tails can be cooked in Elixirs to make Chilly Elixirs. They can also be fused to a melee weapon to create a whip. If fused to arrows instead, then they will add an "ice effect."
Players can use Ice-Breath Lizalfos Tails to upgrade the Desert Voe Set and the Yiga Set:
