Days after the release of the third official trailer for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Nintendo gave players a glimpse of what to expect when the game is booted up for the first time. The preview from Nintendo touched upon what players can create, discover, and explore as they see how the lands and skies of Hyrule have changed once Tears of the Kingdom launches.

From the start, players will see that the land of Hyrule has changed in the short time since Breath of the Wild, as the world began to heal after Link, Zelda, and their companions emerged victorious over Calamity Ganon. However, evil never truly rests, as proven by Nintendo showing two trailers that heralded the return of Ganondorf, the Zelda series' iconic antagonist. Compared to the start of Breath of the Wild, which saw Link awaken after 100 years of slumber in a dark shrine within the Great Plateau, the start of Tears of the Kingdom will be completely different from before.

On the official Tears of the Kingdom website, Nintendo revealed that Link will begin his next adventure on one of the islands that appeared over the skies of Hyrule after the events of Breath of the Wild. The islands were first explored in a gameplay video hosted by Nintendo general manager Eiji Aonuma. In the video, Aonuma gave viewers a short glimpse of what has changed in Hyrule, and demonstrated Link's new abilities such as Ultrahand and Fuse to highlight what players can create. Once Link gets some practice in with his new abilities, Nintendo stated that the Hero of Hyrule will return to the surface to explore and figure out what is going on across the land in the wake of Ganondorf's return.

Though the Tears of the Kingdom website stated that Link will be exploring one of the sky islands to begin the game, it did not state how he and Zelda became separated once again. The search for Zelda, which is one of the recurring themes of the series, will once again be prominent in Tears of the Kingdom. Though speculation remains as to the whereabouts of princess Zelda, only time will tell what will come to pass as Link explores and scours the lands and skies of Hyrule.

As the release of Tears of the Kingdom draws closer, it is clear Nintendo has chosen to leave some mysteries behind for players to solve. As such, it will fall to players to explore the far corners of Hyrule, discover what Link and Zelda can do to fight back against Ganondorf, and get creative with Link's new abilities in the latest entry of the Zelda series.
