A Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom player recently brought their childhood into the world of Hyrule by building a prehistoric vehicle inspired by The Flintstones. Tears of the Kingdom is one of the most acclaimed entries in the long-running Legend of Zelda series and one of the biggest games of 2023, thanks in no small part to its new building and crafting mechanics. These surprisingly versatile features have added to Tears of the Kingdom’s playability by allowing players to piece together their own custom weapons, vehicles, and buildings to help Link on his journey.
While many of the creations players have shown off in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom are original, others have taken inspiration from other video games, movies, and television shows for their Hyrule-made vehicles. Such surprising crossovers include the classic X-Wing starfighter from Star Wars, Batman’s trusty Batmobile, and even a shape-shifting mech seemingly pulled from the Transformers universe.
Now a Reddit user by the handle of sk8nhippy55 is showing off their custom-made Flintstones car on the HyruleEngineering subreddit, a forum dedicated to the many different things players have built using Tears of the Kingdom’s new abilities. Sk8nhippy55’s Hyrulean take on Fred Flintstone’s signature Stone Age ride features the wooden frame, massive stone wheels, and awning from the classic cartoon - though it is powered by Zonai batteries instead of Link giving it a running start as Fred did. Other users have playfully ribbed sk8nhippy55 on this minor discrepancy while praising them for their skill in bringing the Flintstones car to life in Tears of the Kingdom.
Recreating famous cars and spacecraft from across fiction is just one of the amusing side activities brought on by Tears of the Kingdom’s creation suite. Skilled players have devised interesting ways to navigate the game’s floating Sky Islands, crafted powerful assault vehicles to help Link in his battle against the forces of Ganondorf, and even come up with shockingly brutal torture methods against the plant-like Koroks. The versatility of Tears of the Kingdom's crafting mechanics has allowed the game to remain at the forefront of the gaming landscape for months after its launch in May, with little indication of slowing down anytime soon.
With Tears of the Kingdom’s rumored sequel likely not being announced for a few more years at the least, fans are still entertaining themselves by bringing iconic vehicles from beloved franchises like Star Wars and The Flintstones into the open world of Hyrule. Sk8nhippy55’s Flintstones-inspired car is a near-perfect match for the original, though Fred probably wishes he had some Zonai batteries on hand to power his ride instead of dragging it everywhere.
