In The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, players will have to venture out to the rocky, scorching region of Eldin if they want to complete the game's main storyline. Players can find Eldin in the northeastern area of Hyrule. Within this challenging environment lies Goron City, the home of the Goron people, Yunobo, and the formidable Death Mountain.

This area is particularly dangerous due to its blistering conditions that can set Link on fire if he isn't properly equipped. Fortunately, there are some ways to become Fireproof in Tears of the Kingdom, granting players the freedom to explore without the fear of burning to a crisp. It's important to note that Heat Resistance provides a different effect to Fireproof, and will not protect players from burning. Here are some of the best strategies and methods to become Fireproof in Tears of the Kingdom.

3 Remove Any Wooden Weapons Or Shields

Unfortunately, only Link can gain Fire Resistance, not his weapons. Players who are heading into some of the more fiery areas of Tears of the Kingdom should make sure that they unequip any of their wooden weapons or shields. This is because these weapons will almost immediately ignite, damaging Link and whatever weapons he has equipped.

To avoid losing any valuable items, and to make Link a little more Fire-Resistant, players need to remember to put away their wooden weapons whilst they explore Eldin's burning landscapes.

2 Armor For Fire Resistance

There are various types of armor the player can equip to increase Link's Fire Resistance in Tears of the Kingdom. This armor will protect Link from the blistering conditions around and within Death Mountain.

Flamebreaker Armor

The Flamebreaker Armor can first be purchased in the Clothing Store at Goron City. The prices for each piece are as follows:

  • Flamebreaker Helm - 1,400 Rupees
  • Flamebreaker Armor - 700 Rupees
  • Flamebreaker Boots - 1,200 Rupees

This armor is a bit pricey, especially considering how difficult it can be to make Rupees in Tears of the Kingdom. Luckily, the player only needs to equip one piece of Flamebreaker Armor to protect themselves from the scorching conditions of Eldin.

However, players who are wanting to collect every piece of armor in Tears of the Kingdom are going to have to stump up their hard-earned Rupees, as there is no other way to acquire this armor.

Vah Rudania Divine Helm

The Vah Rudania Divine Helm, which has a defense rating of 2 and makes Link Fireproof, is obtainable in two different ways. Firstly, it can be found in the Lizard's Burrow cave beneath Death Mountain, as part of 'The Hidden Treasure at Lizard Lakes' side quest.

Alternatively, players can acquire it by scanning the Daruk amiibo. When scanned, the amiibo will summon ores from the sky and a treasure chest. Inside the chest, there is a possibility of finding the Vah Rudania Divine Helm, although it may also contain other items.

1 Fireproof Elixir

One of the best ways to increase Link's Fire Resistance in Tears of the Kingdom is to make a Fireproof Elixir. This can be done by selecting a monster part, and up to four Smotherwing Butterflies or Fireproof Lizards.

The more insects they add to the recipe, the greater the elixir's Fire Resistance will be. Unfortunately, these insects are quite rare and can be difficult to find. Here is where players can locate each of them.

Smotherwing Butterfly Locations

Tears of the Kingdom Smotherwing Butterfly

Players can primarily find Smotherwing Butterflies around Death Mountain, which actually boasts the greatest abundance of these creatures throughout Tears of the Kingdom. They can also occasionally be found in Eldin Canyon. These butterflies can be quite difficult to catch, as they're quick to startle. To help players sneak up on them better, they can equip some Stealth Armor, or try cooking some recipes to increase their Stealth.

Alternatively, players who don't want to go hunting around for them can always purchase them from Beedle. He offers Smotherwing Butterflies at the East Akkala and Wetland Stables for 10 Rupees each, albeit in limited numbers.

Fireproof Lizard Locations

Tears of the Kingdom Fireproof Lizard

Fireproof Lizards are one of the more rare creatures in Tears of the Kingdom, and can be quite tricky to catch. Players can find them in the Eldin Mountains and Eldin Canyon. They're speedy little creatures, and players will have to either sneak up on them, or cook some recipes to increase their speed, so they can catch up to the lizards.

An alternative way to get Fireproof Lizards is from Beedle. He can be found selling Fireproof Lizards at both Woodland Stable and South Akkala Stable for 25 Rupees each. His stock is usually limited though, so players will have to make multiple trips if they're wanting to create lots of Elixirs.

Fireproof Lizards are also important for upgrading the Flamebreaker Armor, so players should try to gather as many as they can if they want to increase their Flame Resistance.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is available for the Nintendo Switch.
