The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword first released in 2011 as an exclusive for the Nintendo Wii, but it's recently made its way to the Nintendo Switch as The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD. Skyward Sword HD released alongside special Zelda-themed Joy-Con controllers and new amiibo, not unlike the original Wii version, which included special bundles that came with a Zelda-themed Wii remote. Those bundles were affordable in 2011, but now they are going for astronomical prices on online auction sites like eBay.

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword had a special Wii remote bundle because the game required the use of the MotionPlus accessory. For the uninitiated, Wii MotionPlus improved the Wii remote's motion controls so that they would be completely 1:1, allowing for the kind of swordplay and other motion control input featured in The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. Since Nintendo knew not every Wii owner purchased a Wii MotionPlus accessory, this limited edition bundle was a convenient way to get a Wii remote with built-in MotionPlus capabilities.

This Zelda: Skyward Sword Wii bundle also came with a soundtrack, making it a highly sought-after collector's item. On eBay, fans can find a sealed copy of the bundle listed for an absurd $39,999.99. Elsewhere on the site the bundle can be found for a little cheaper, with used copies ranging from $200 to $330. That's still quite the mark-up from how much it cost in 2011, but it's definitely more reasonable and realistic.

While $39,999.99 is a ridiculous price for this Zelda: Skyward Sword Wii bundle, it may very well one day go for this price or higher at auction. Just recently, a sealed copy of The Legend of Zelda for NES sold at auction for a dizzying $870,000, setting a world record in the process. The sealed copy of The Legend of Zelda on NES beat out the $660,000 sealed copy of Super Mario Bros., which was the previous record holder.

Of course, those who don't care about these kinds of collector's items can experience The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword for far cheaper. The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD on the Nintendo Switch is arguably the definitive way to experience the game, as it features upscaled graphics and major quality-of-life improvements. In fact, the Zelda: Skyward Sword HD quality of life improvements address many of the criticisms that fans had about the original game, getting rid of some of the excessive hand-holding found in the Wii version.

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword is available for the Wii, with the HD version out now for Switch.
