A fan of The Legend of Zelda created a wood carving of the King of Red Lions, the talking boat that first appeared in The Wind Waker. This sculpture is an original creation showcasing the artist’s love for The Legend of Zelda and the iconic characters from this popular gaming series.

The Legend of Zelda is filled with remarkable characters, from Link and Zelda to side characters that could carry their own Legend of Zelda spinoffs such as Beedle, Hudson, and the Postman. Among those iconic characters is the King of Red Lions, a talking boat that takes Link across the seas in The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. The King of Red Lions became widely popular among players, appearing in other games such as Super Smash Bros. Brawl where he makes a cameo in the Pirate Ship stage.

This wood model of the King of Red Lions depicts Link raising his sword while crossing the seas on the talking boat. The model bears the same traits as the in-game boat, with its characteristic red hull, dragon-shaped bow, and the sail Link has to purchase before being able to navigate from island to island in The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. Several comments to the Reddit post complimented the quality of the artwork and asked whether they could purchase it to showcase their love for the series.

While the King of Red Lions wasn’t featured in the latest games from The Legend of Zelda franchise, Link has more adventures coming ahead in 2023. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is scheduled for May 12 and will follow the events of 2017’s Breath of the Wild. In the various Tears of the Kingdom trailers released by Nintendo since the game’s initial announcement during E3 2019, the open world of Hyrule seems filled with a large variety of environments, from lush forests to hidden dungeons and large plains to explore. The main addition to this sequel to Breath of the Wild is vertical mobility, as Link is able to explore the islands floating above Hyrule.

The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker is available for GameCube.
