The Legend of Zelda's producer has shared his thoughts regarding potential remakes from the franchise coming out in the future. With Zelda's most recent entry Tears of the Kingdom receiving a lot of high praise, it seems like Nintendo has struck a good formula for how modern entries in the series might play out moving forward. The game has come far off from the NES and its humble beginnings utilizing top-down gameplay.

Some fans likely recall that Nintendo gave a glimpse of its upcoming Super Mario RPG remake during the June 2023 Nintendo Direct. Remasters, remakes, and re-releases are popular in this day and age due to the advancement of hardware. This has prompted many gamers and developers to consider the possibilities of which other titles in the Nintendo library could receive a fresh coat of polish at some point—The Legend of Zelda included. On this note, Zelda's producer gave his insights on the topic of remakes from the franchise's history.

In an exclusive interview by RTLniuews with Legend of Zelda franchise producer Eiji Aonuma, he stated that a lot of what makes Tears of the Kingdom work is because it was born from ideas in the past. He then mentioned that it was hard to stay anything about the future but that the team always tried to offer more than what existed in previous productions. Sadly, his final remarks were to confirm that the developers are not really concerned with the older games anymore.

While these statements are representative of how Aonuma sees the franchise moving forward, Nintendo has previously released a few remakes and remasters of some older titles. The classic Legend of Zelda games remade for modern consoles were successful during their time of release. It may be a stretch to declare some of the titles as "remakes" since most just received HD textures or updated control options. However, the visual leap from some, like Link's Awakening, was huge enough and did introduce some quality-of-life improvements.

With this in mind, it would really be a huge deal should Aonuma reconsider his stance on remakes. A few fans have hoped that The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures could receive a huge upgrade and be released for Switch consoles. Legend of Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link has huge potential if it ever comes out with a modern engine. A lot of Zelda games are timeless and could give young gamers a brand-new experience if Nintendo gave them a chance. Hopefully, the developers can change their minds about more remakes in the future.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is available exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
