Like many gaming franchises, The Legend of Zelda series sees its fair share of fan art. Over the years, the games have gained a large following of devoted fans, and these fans often create artwork to express their love for the characters and places of the franchise. Among the popular titles in the Zelda series that often get fan art based on it is The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask.

Released in 2000, Majora’s Mask has become well-known among gamers for many reasons. Among the factors contributing to this popularity is the wide range of magical masks Link can wear during his adventures, causing him to play differently. Recently, one gamer made fan art based on one of these iconic masks from the game.

In a post on Reddit, a user known as PenguinThold shared an image of a piece of artwork they had created based on The Legend of Zelda series. This particular fan art stood out because the creator had decided to recreate the Deku Mask from Majora’s Mask. In the game, it is a mask used for Transformation, turning Link into a Deku Scrub, complete with a new set of abilities.

The mask featured in the Reddit image had a black color on top with shades of brown underneath. Among the highlights of the design, PenguinThold included the recognizable aspects of the in-game mask. For instance, it had a pair of orangish eyes and three leaves attached to the back of the object. Impressively, the Reddit user revealed that they had made the entire mask out of paper mache and cardboard.

Since posting this impressive paper mache Deku Mask on Reddit, members of the Zelda community have taken notice. Over the past couple of days, several hundred users have upvoted the post, with a couple of people commenting to praise the design. In addition, PenguinThold revealed in the comments section that they were working on another mask, this time the Zora Mask from the game.

While Majora’s Mask was released over 20 years ago, it is impressive to see the vast amount of artwork fans have made based on the title. While this Deku Mask is noteworthy, it is just one of many creations shown off by talented Zelda fans over the past couple of weeks. For example, another gamer recently shared an image of a real-life replica of Majora’s Mask that they had created. With the release of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 expected to come next year, it seems likely that gamers will continue to make artwork based on the series for the foreseeable future.

The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask is available now for Nintendo 64 and Switch through the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack, and an enhanced port is available on 3DS.
