Custom video game hardware designs are incredibly popular among gamers, as giving a video game accessory or console a nice coat of paint can result in some stunning designs. There have been many custom designs made for Nintendo's systems, such as a Metroid Dread-themed Nintendo Switch Console. Now, one fan has decided to create a new design for the Nintendo Switch OLED, basing it off of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD, one of the Zelda franchise's beloved entries.

The Nintendo Switch OLED is the latest addition to the Switch console family, being a new model that contains improvements over the original. Some of these include the OLED Screen, expanded internal storage space, and an Ethernet port. As Wind Waker is a fan favorite entry of the franchise, one fan decided to create a hypothetical design of the console that imagines if the game had been ported to the Nintendo Switch.

Posted on Reddit by user willierthanyou, the design takes inspiration from the idea of travelling the open sea as Link. This can be seen with the Switch's joy-con controllers, being colored blue and having an ocean wave like pattern on them inspired by the Great Sea. The control sticks and buttons are a combination of yellow and red, which bring to mind Link's talking sailboat, the King of Red Lions. A stencil drawing can also be seen on the dock of the Nintendo Switch, showing the two sailing away into uncharted territory. The post is even capped off with a cheeky fake advert, saying that The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD would be available for download.

Fans on the Subreddit commended the unique design of the Switch, noting that it could easily pass as an official Nintendo design. Others who were thinking about buying the OLED model noted that this design would have convinced them to buy one immediately. Compliments were given towards the stencil of Link and his boat, along with the unique ocean pattern on the joy-cons. More ardent fans of Wind Waker loved the design as well, reminding them that their favorite game has yet to be ported from the Wii U to the Switch.

As The Legend of Zelda series is celebrating its 35th anniversary this year, fans are celebrating the many different aspects and games that have been under its umbrella. The jubilation surrounding this milestone can be felt in several ways, which range from praising this custom console design to enjoying Nintendo's The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD. While Wind Waker HD is currently a Wii U exclusive, fans hope that with Skyward Sword being ported, this classic game could be brought over to the Switch too.

The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD is available on Wii U.
