The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has been out for five and a half years, but fans are still discovering new ways to have fun in Nintendo's expansive action adventure. One such discovery surfaced online earlier this week in the form of a Breath of the Wild glitch that allows players to disarm Yiga Clan members and effectively turn them into companions that can accompany Link on his adventures across Hyrule.

The Yiga Clan is an antagonist group featured in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity. It is depicted as a breakaway faction of the Sheikah tribe loyal to Ganon, the main villain of The Legend of Zelda series. In Breath of the Wild, members of this group perpetually ambush Link, often disguised as travelers along Hyrule's main roads.

YouTube channel Gaming Reinvented has now discovered a way to permanently disarm the deadly Yiga Clan members, turning them into perfectly harmless companions. Doing so is quite a lengthy affair, however, as it requires players to lure the enemies from the Yiga Hideout in the Northwestern part of the Gerudo Wasteland all the way to Gerudo Town in the south. From there, approaching the town gate wearing anything other than the Gerudo Outfit will trigger a well-known cutscene wherein the town guards will prevent the player from entering through the gates. But if there are any Yiga Clan members in pursuit of Link, that cutscene will also glitch their equipment, leaving them defenseless.

This glitch can hence be used to create a humorous entourage in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, but given the huge distance between the closest Yiga spawn point and Gerudo Town, it isn't easy to trigger. Given how slow Yiga Blademasters move, disarming just a couple of them might take up to an hour. Further, there's no real practical reason to do this in the first place; other enemies will still prefer attacking Link over his hostile entourage, and on the rare occasion that they don't, the Yiga Blademasters will be entirely helpless.

The Yiga Clan is likely to reappear in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, a direct sequel to Breath of the Wild scheduled to release in mid-2023. Unlike the previous game, Tears of the Kingdom might feature actual companions, so players won't have to resort to glitching out enemy weapons if they start to feel lonely during their travels.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is available now on Switch and Wii U.
