The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild now has a new speedrun champion, as one player has now successfully beaten the game in just over 45 minutes. This surpasses the previous record set just one week ago when one super committed player beat Breath of the Wild in just under an hour, despite losing their original attempt at record setting to a game freeze.

The fact that anyone can blitz through The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild so quickly is impressive, but as showcased in the Twitch stream documenting the feat below, the secret to that phenomenal 45:32 completion time is relatively mundane. The trick for playing through the game at a pace, it seems, is just to play the game in German.

While that's not particularly helpful for any English speakers trying to have enriching conversations with the game's delightful NPCs (at least one of whom resembles late Nintendo president Satoru Iwata) and discover its secrets, it's useful information for speedrunners. According to speedrunners, Breath of the Wild's German voice acting moves faster than any other language, making it easier to skip through forced dialogue sections.

Of course, the German language trick isn't the only thing that players are utilizing on their quest to become the fastest speedrunner. Some players have discovered a way to skip the game's puzzles, while others have made apt use of the infinite horse stamina trick. Undoubtedly, as more players join in on the speedrunning fun, even more of these quirks and unusual methods will be discovered, helping everyone shave precious seconds off of their totals.

One of the big questions, though, is how long it will take Breath of the Wild players to achieve 100% completion. While plenty of players have surely done everything in the game already, including discovering all Korok seeds for a 'crappy' prize, it remains to be seen who can do so the fastest.

Moreover, it will be interesting to see how fast people can beat the upcoming Zelda: Breath of the Wild DLC. One confirmed expansion in the works will add a new story as well as a new dungeon. And although it's unclear just how substantial either will be, no doubt, speedrunners will be falling all over themselves to see who can be the fastest at completing that extra content too.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is available on Nintendo Switch and Wii U.
