The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past was released in 1991 for the SNES, and since then, it has become a fan favorite. Among the reasons for its success was the expansive world players could explore. Playing as Link, gamers traveled to many exciting locations across the Hyrule Kingdom during the adventure. To help players get their bearings, the game included a world map showing the location of Link in relation to the many landmarks in Hyrule. Recently, one fan decided to recreate this iconic map in an interesting medium.
In a post on Reddit, a user known as oldmanchadly shared a picture of a recent cross-stitch project they had been working on. What made this particular piece of art stand out was that the Reddit user had decided to recreate the world map from A Link to the Past. Remarkably, they had managed to make a near facsimile of the map seen in the classic SNES game. In order to pull off this incredible likeness, they utilized the same top-down perspective and pixelated art style. Some of the iconic spots recreated on the world map were Kakariko Village, Death Mountain, Desert of Mystery, and Hyrule Castle, just to name a few.
In addition to showing off the recreated Zelda map in a picture, oldmanchadly shared some details behind making the cross-stitch. They revealed that they had started the project over a year ago, and since then, they had worked on it for 316 days. While the design already looked stunning, they revealed that they were only 74% finished. According to the creator, they still had approximately 33,000 stitches left in order to complete the map. If all goes according to plan, they hoped to be done with the project by the summer.
Unsurprisingly, a number of Zelda fans on Reddit took notice of this incredible cross-stitch of the world map from A Link to the Past. With over 660 upvotes in only a day, many were impressed with the work put into the project. In addition, some pointed out that the design looked as good as the map seen in the game. “Legit thought I was looking at a screen cap. Awesome work!” squarefan80 said on Reddit.
While this cross-stitch map of Link to Past is doubtlessly impressive, it is far from the only artwork made by passionate fans over the past couple of weeks. For example, another gamer recently baked an incredible pie that looked like the Majora’s Mask worn by Skull Kid. As players revisit these retro Zelda titles, it will be interesting to see what creations fans design next.
