A new trailer for Zack Snyder’s Justice League puts the focus on the origins of the DC superheroes. As part of marketing the much-awaited film, Snyder has been releasing information and clips over the past few months. The latest video, ‘The Mother Box Origins’ trailer, is a two-minute montage of art depicted on the different faces of the Mother Box, each portraying one of the hero’s stories.

Released during the IGN Fan Fest, the trailer includes a look at Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg, and The Flash. There are several references to the DC Extended Universe within the murals, including events that have been a part of the standalone movies created for the multiple characters. But, a closer look at the portraits makes it clear that Snyder has hidden a bunch of Easter Eggs in the spot.

With Tom Waits’ “Time” acting as the background score, the video features the shifting Boxes, and as each box changes, a member of the Justice League appears along with several additional elements, including the Bat-signal and Clark Kent’s childhood farmhouse. "There are a million Easter Eggs in it," Snyder stated during a virtual appearance at the IGN Fan Fest. He hopes that fans will spend time analyzing the video and looking for each one because they don’t just highlight the heroes’ history, but also hint at things to come.

Some of the more easily visible Easter Eggs include Martha Wayne's pearls and Joe Chill's gun, which depict the time the Caped Crusader lost his parents. Wonder Woman’s mural includes Steve’s watch and war memorabilia, whereas Nora Allen’s gravestone is a prominent feature of The Flash’s portrait. Cyborg’s mural offers a look at Victor Stone’s football helmet, whereas fans are offered a glimpse at Atlantis on Aquaman’s side of the Mother Box. Superman’s side of the Mother Box is filled with Kryptonian artifacts along with Zod’s Ship from Man of Steel.

In the DC comics, Mother Boxes are shown to be powerful devices of Apokoliptian origin that were brought to Earth thousands of years ago. The three boxes first arrive during Steppenwolf’s attempted invasion of the planet. He is stopped by the Amazons, Atlanteans, and humans, and the Mother Boxes are then separated and left to be guarded. During Steppenwolf's return to Earth for a second attempt at invasion, the Mother Boxes are used to bring Superman back to life by the Justice League, events that were shown in the 2017 theatrical version of Justice League, too.

While fans continue to look for more hidden clues in the Mother Boxes from the trailer, the wait for Zack Snyder’s Justice League comes to an end soon. After months of campaigning for Warner Bros. to "#ReleaseTheSnyderCut," fans get to watch the Snyder Cut this month. With just a few days to go, it remains to be seen what else Snyder has up his sleeve to promote his upcoming project.

Zack Snyder's Justice League is set to release on HBO Max on March 18, 2021.
