Justice League is a pivotal film for the live-action DC Extended Universe. The movie has gone through a controversial path for it to be released. Many are familiar with the tragedy director Zack Snyder faced while working on this film, but fortunately the director was met with nothing but praise after his version of the movie was finally released.

Zack Snyder's cut of Justice League was released to a very warm reception, and fans got to see everything that was cut due to the higher-ups at DC and Warner Bros. Snyder recently posted a tweet to celebrate the one-year anniversary of his film being released to the public. The tweet reads, "This Means Something," which many believe has a hidden meaning.

Now that fans saw it, the hype for what once was has been increasing. With DC's recent release of the acclaimed The Batman, many are debating over the two different sides DC should go with their future projects. One side believes that DC should only make solo films revolving around their heroes that serve as a character study. Others believe that the Snyder universe should return to its full glory.

There's an argument to be made for either side. Many people are critical of superhero movies already due to how "watered" down the stories are in comparison to the films that typically win Oscars or awards. The thing that these critics should acknowledge is that for many people, all they need is an enjoyable film that can take their mind off of things. Sometimes people want to "not think" when they sit down to watch a movie or play a game. People are generally looking for an escape from reality when they become engrossed in these different worlds or stories. Not many people would enjoy a movie that followed a generic or safe day-to-day life story of an average citizen. They would rather see Spider-Man flip off of buildings while teaming up with Deadpool to fight the Juggernaut.

On the other side, it's important to note that a movie can be enjoyable while also being taken seriously. This is what many saw from the recent Batman movie, where both comic book fans and newcomers enjoyed the film. The film was once supposed to feature Deathstroke but instead found its new impactful villain in the Riddler (played by Paul Dano). This movie unpacked a lot of depth with characters that many critics typically don't take seriously. Seeing the reinvention of the Riddler was enjoyable for many viewers.

Hopefully moving forward comic book movie creators are able to find a balance when it comes to making things enjoyable while also trying to make it deep. DC has typically excelled when it comes to Batman because of his lack of superpowers. It would be interesting to see how they can make a film with someone like Shazam be taken seriously. There's a lot of other characters that DC can work with who are waiting for their time to shine, so here's to hoping that this comes into fruition.

Zack Snyder's Justice League is available now on HBO Max.
