In Yu-Gi-Oh! Cross Duel, fans should be prepared to experience the classic card game in an entirely new way. While many classic cards return alongside newer cards such as the ones seen in Yu-Gi-Oh! Sevens, they've been adjusted to fit the new 4-player free-for-all style. One way that the cards have been changed is that even the most infamous card effects have been taken and made into skills that can be equipped to each card. This guide will go over them and teach players how to equip skills in Yu-Gi-Oh! Cross Duel.

Skills in Yu-Gi-Oh! Cross Duel are customizable effects that can be added to monsters and changed out to change how entire decks operate. These skills not only vary in effect and timing, but they also vary between cards. Typically, the skills available for each monster ties into the series they're from and the monster's abilities in the YGO Trading Card Game itself. One example of this is how Bitron from the Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS series features the "Link Arrow" skill in order to make it easier for the player to summon Link Monsters from the same show.

How to Equip Skills in Yu-Gi-Oh Cross Duel

Skills can be equipped in the "edit deck" menu when players press the "cards" button on the main screen. From there, they need to select one of their decks or make a new one.

Players should drag their Yu-Gi-Oh! monster of choice into the top row on the screen to put it into the deck. Once a monster card is in the deck, players simply need to tap on it to see its skills and skill slots. From there, skills can be dragged into the first skill slot, the empty orange slot with a "1" on the inside of it, and the card should change color based on the skill once it's equipped.

When players get monsters from the Card Gacha, they'll only come with one skill. Other skills can be unlocked using Skill Materials that can be earned in the game's many modes through cumulative rewards and ranking up in the Ranked Duels. Players can use these materials to unlock skills in the card's "customization" menu, which can be found on the card screen and in the "Monster Customization" menu. However, for many duelists, especially those who have just started playing, all of their monsters will have only one skill slot available.

In order to unlock more skill slots in this Yu-Gi-Oh video game, which helps make their cards more formidable in duels, they need to either obtain a certain number of duplicate cards or trade-in duplicate cards of the same rarity.

How many are needed depends on the rarity of the card. Rares require 5 of either, Super Rares need 1 duplicate of itself or 2 dupes of the same rarity, and Ultra Rares need one double or four duplicate URs. This could take players a considerable amount of time with how the odds of the gacha may leave them without too many SRs or URs for some time.

Yu-Gi-Oh! Cross Duel is available now on most mobile devices.
