Konami has officially announced a new competitive tournament series for Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel dubbed the "Challenger Cup," set to begin next month. The newest online simulator for Konami's massively popular trading card game debuted to major success with its surprise launch earlier this year. The new Yu-Gi-Oh! game quickly broke records on Steam and would see millions of downloads across multiple platforms. Now, with Konami previously stating they intend for Master Duel to serve as a competitive platform, the developer has revealed the game's first official tournament series. The newest announcement would not be the first time Konami has made steps towards promoting Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel as a competitive platform for the card game created by Kazuki Takahashi. Master Duel was originally marketed as a top-level platform for the game that will feature alongside games like Duel Links and the physical trading card game at major events. Konami has also taken steps towards promoting high-level competition in-game with its Duelist Cup event earlier this year. Now, Master Duel players in Europe will soon get their chance to show their skills at a Konami event.RELATED: Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel Announces New Banlist for DecemberKonami officially revealed the Challenger Cup on Sunday following the conclusion of its Master Duel Challenge Cup tournament featuring Yu-Gi-Oh! content creators. The Challenger Cup is set to begin on December 17th and run through mid-February with 85 "free-to-enter online tournaments" planned. The tournament series currently believed to be exclusive to Europe with the game's EU branch putting on the event. Konami did not reveal any details about how the Master Duel tournament series will be structured or whether the Challenger Cup will be extended to other regions.

A post shared by prominent Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel-focused Twitter account "Master Duel Guide" also shares some information about what kinds of prizes players will be able to win. Prizes will reportedly range from Master Duel memorabilia like hoodies and card sleeves to higher-end rewards like Nintendo Switch OLED and PS5 consoles. The tournament will also feature plushies based on Yu-Gi-Oh's "Rescue Rabbit" as a prize, with the plushies being a popular giveaway item from Konami during events and conventions.

The first official tournament series for Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel comes as the game has added plenty of new content over the first ten months following its launch. Master Duel has introduced several new ways for players to experience the game between the Casual Match queue earlier this year and the recently-added Team Battle game mode. Konami has also regularly added new cards into the game, as well as more solo modes based on the game's many different archetypes. The Master Duel Challenger Cup will be an opportunity for Europe's best Master Duel players to show their skills.

Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and mobile devices.
