A new leak suggests that an HD remaster of the cult-classic 2005 JRPG, Ys: The Oath in Felghana, is set to make its way to the West after its initial Japan-only release. The Ys series, which is helmed by the seasoned Japanese game developer Nihon Falcom, is infamous for containing several mainline installments that take months, if not years, to receive official English translations. Though it does sometimes take quite awhile for these games to get proper localizations, it seems that the recently-released Ys: The Oath in Felghana remaster will launch in Western territories sooner rather than later.

Ys: The Oath in Felghana is an action RPG that was released exclusively for Windows PCs in Japan on June 30, 2005. Although the game's name doesn't give any indication as such, the title is actually a remake of the third installment in the Ys franchise, 1989's Ys 3: Wanderers from Ys. The Oath in Felghana wasn't available on consoles for several years, but it was eventually released for PlayStation Portable in April 2010, though this port of the acclaimed JRPG didn't receive a Western localization until November of that year. The PSP version of the game was the first to receive an English translation, as the game's initial PC release didn't come to the West until two years after the fact.

Part of Ys’ charm stems from the fragmented nature of the franchise, but that can make getting into the JRPG franchise difficult for new fans.

Even though Ys: The Oath in Felghana is widely regarded as one of the best installments in the series by diehard Falcom fans, the game has yet to make its way to more modern platforms besides Steam, at least in the West. While the beloved entry in the long-running RPG franchise did receive an HD remaster — dubbed Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana — for Nintendo Switch in early 2023, it was only released in Japan. It looks like this might change soon, however, as a recent leak spotted by gamergalmilla on Twitter seemingly indicates that the publisher XSEED Games is gearing up to bring Ys Memoire to the West in the near future.

Ys: The Oath of Felghana's HD Remaster May Finally Get a Western Release

It appears that XSEED Games uploaded an image showcasing the demos the company plans to offer at Anime Expo 2024 a bit too early, as the wording in the leaked marketing material suggests that the post was meant to go live on July 7, the last day of the upcoming convention. If that's the case, then the Western release of Ys Memoire: The Oath of Felghana could be a surprise announcement at the event. That would certainly be exciting news for Falcom fans in the West, as they'd finally be able to add the HD remaster to their Nintendo Switch JRPG libraries.

If the game does indeed get an English localization, then fans can expect Ys Memoire to release on PS4/5 as well as Nintendo Switch, as the remaster was ported to Sony's home consoles in Japan earlier this year. A PC release is possible as well, but an Xbox port is unlikely, as the Ys series has almost always skipped the platform.
