The trailer for part one of season 4 of Netflix's You shows Joe Goldberg (Penn Badgley) living in London and attempting to find Marienne Bellamy (Tati Gabrielle) after killing his wife Love Quinn (Victoria Pedretti) in the season 3 finale. Joe typically feels that he can move somewhere and get rid of any desire to kill, which, of course, never lasts very long. The trailer shows Joe attempting to thrive in his new life, but it's clear that any joy is going to be short-lived thanks to who he is at the core of his being.

With the season 4 premiere coming February 9th, 2023, it's a good time to look back on the events of season 3 of this entertaining thriller, along with the story and characters who will be in this new season. One thing is for certain, the next phase of Joe's story will still be filled with fear, obsession, and shocking events.

What Happened in You Season 3?

Sherry, Love, Joe, and their baby in a bakery in You

Season 3 of You is a wild ride, which is saying a lot considering that every season of the Netflix thriller has been intense and well-plotted with perfect pacing. At the beginning of season 3, Joe and Love are now residing in a beautiful house in Madre Lindra, California, a place that bores them both and makes them hungry for the more exciting life that they used to lead. They love their baby son Henry but Joe's belief that he can stop killing people is brought to a screeching halt when Love murders their neighbor Natalie Engler (Michaela McManus).

Love starts a business, the pretty bakery A Fresh Start, and Joe falls for Marienne at the local library. Joe becomes addicted to his stolen moments with Marienne, repeating the pattern he followed with Beck and Love, and when Love is wise to his cheating, she tries to kill him. Joe fights back and poisons her to death.

Even though there are some confusing things about You season 3, it's still a well-crafted season with some fantastic characters. Joe's life becomes more frightening when he tries to stop the worst parts of himself from creeping into his life again, but while he wishes that he could be a good dad to Henry, it's hard for him to truly move on from who he is.

How Will You Season 4 Change The Story?

Joe and Love in therapy in You season 3

You season 4 must answer some questions, including where Marienne is and what will happen with Joe's son Henry. The trailer for part one of season 4 shows Joe standing in a bar talking to two women who ask him if he killed someone or if someone broke his heart, which makes him think even more about Marienne and if he will ever find her again. Season 4 will change the story because for the first time in a while, Joe is single, and his loneliness is evident in every scene in the trailer.

Season 4 will also be different because this time around, someone is stalking Joe. He gets the creepy feeling that he is being stared at and then starts receiving strange and anonymous text messages from someone who knows who he is and where he is. This will likely jumpstart a fascinating season 4 and prove why You is a perfect example of the thriller genre. Even though Joe's intentions and personality traits are clear by now, his actions and storylines are still a total shock, and the show's storytelling is addictive and effective.

Who Is Returning In You Season 4?

Marienne Bellamy and Juliette in You season 3

Besides Penn Badgley coming back as Joe Goldberg, his love interest Marienne will be played once again by Tati Garbielle. Other cast members include Ed Speleers playing Rhys, Tilly Keeper playing Lady Phoebe, Charlotte Richie playing Kate, Lukas Gage playing Adam, and Amy-Leigh Hickman portraying the role of Nadia. Stephen Hagan will also play Malcolm, who wants Joe to become part of his friend group.

Kate is the director of an art gallery who doesn't have to worry about money because of her family, and when Joe begins spending time with her social circle, she thinks that something is off about him. This will be fascinating to watch as it's always fun when there is someone who knows the truth about Joe. In the season 4 part one trailer, Joe comments on his new social connections and mentions that they are rich and stupid, which suggests that there will be tension.

It will be interesting to see how these new characters affect Joe, who seems as creepy as ever in the trailer, and who it's clear won't rest until he talks to Marienne and gets her back... or finds a new obsession.
