Twitch streamer xQc has been around for long enough now that he's established his own lore. It may even be true that a minority of his viewers know that xQc built his initial start playing League of Legends, not Overwatch. In 2016 xQc made the shift to Blizzard's multiplayer shooter and in the process went from xQcLoL to xQcOW, which has remained his account name since. Six years of Twitch later and his account is still intertwined with his past in the Overwatch League. That may be changing soon, though.

Speaking to his chat in a recent broadcast on Twitch, xQc confirmed that his days as xQcOW on Twitch may be numbered. The streamer was able to communicate with a Twitch partnership representative named Pluto, who told xQc that there had been some "changes" made behind the scenes and that a username change may now be possible. xQc gave the green light and the Twitch username change is apparently now submitted.

There are still a lot of factors to consider regarding the situation. Twitch has allowed users to change their usernames once every 60 days since 2017. As such, the reason xQc wasn't able to change his username could be due to the "xQc" name being locked, technical issues tied to hugely successful accounts, or contractual/business-related issues. These and other reasons could all be factors preventing a smooth transition to the new username for xQc. The end result is the same, in that there's no timeline for when the change will go through.

xQc previously earned the Most Valuable Player award in Overwatch for his performance during the 2017 Overwatch World Cup. This would lead to his signing with the Dallas Fuel, where he would be suspended and fined due to homophobic and racist comments. This ultimately led to xQc leaving the Overwatch League, though he continued to compete in the Overwatch Contenders league and internationally. Even without the "OW" part of his username, xQc's history will forever be associated with Overwatch.

Some fans have questioned whether the sudden official approval to change xQc's username might be related to the Twitch streamer's decision to start gambling on-stream again. The idea being that Blizzard may not want to be associated with gambling on Twitch, since xQc is such a popular streamer, and has "encouraged" the process. This idea is almost certainly untrue, however, and a product of frustration over xQc's return to gambling.

Whether he's xQcLoL, xQcOW, or xQc, he's still the same Twitch streamer fans have watched for years. He may be playing different games, his controversies may be tied to different circumstances, but the rest is just xQc on Twitch.
