  • Jon Hamm has been linked to the role of Mister Sinister in the X-Men franchise for years, and fan art imagines him in the role.
  • Fans are excited about the idea of Hamm playing Mister Sinister and have expressed their approval and excitement on social media.
  • Hamm's previous experience playing complex and unconventional characters, such as Don Draper in Mad Men, makes him a fitting choice for the sinister role of Mister Sinister in X-Men.

X-Men fans have been clamoring to see Jon Hamm join the franchise as Mister Sinister since his appearance was allegedly scrapped from New Mutants. Now, fan art finally gives them a glimpse at Hamm as the X-Men villain.

New Mutants intended to feature the Essex Corporation, a mysterious organization owned by Nathaniel Essex, a.k.a. Mister Sinister, that collected the genetic material of mutants for unknown purposes. His appearance was first teased in X-Men: Apocalypse. However, the plans changed, and all X-Men films were shelved following the release of Dark Phoenix in 2019. There are rumors that Mister Sinister will be the main villain in MCU's X-Men reboot, replacing the classic supervillain Magneto.

Digital artist skull101ify shared an X-Men fanart featuring Hamm as Mister Sinister. The netizen said he hopes to see the Mad Men star portraying the shape-shifting villain in the future. He also mentioned Hamm nearly playing the role in New Mutants before it was scrapped. "Since Channing Tatum is rumored to play Gambit, figured 'why not him too?!" the artist added in the caption.

Hamm has long been in talks to play Mister Sinister, and netizens are thrilled about the idea. One said he never thought of the casting and added fire emojis, suggesting that the idea was lit and that he approved it. Several netizens also talked about the same casting on X, formerly Twitter, last year after Hamm said he would be "thrilled" to join the franchise. Many also expressed their excitement at seeing him portraying the role. However, several also said they would prefer him to play Fantastic Four villain Doctor Doom, one of the greatest villains in the Marvel franchise.

Casting Hamm as Mister Sinister made sense because he was linked to the character years ago. The actor previously confirmed he had conversations with some people about playing Mister Sinister, and as a comic book fan, he was excited about it. However, it didn't push through. Last year, he reiterated his excitement about playing Mister Sinister when he said it would be fun to play the X-Men villain.

Additionally, since Mister Sinister is as sinister as his name, there is no doubt that Hamm is perfect for the character, as he is accustomed to taking unconventional or wicked roles. He is most well-known for his Mad Men character, Don Draper. Draper was a creative executive who was occasionally brutal and involved in several eye-catching marketing projects. He takes enormous pride in his job and can be pompous. A façade of success and professionalism that made him appear at the top of the proverbial totem pole covered up all of his less admirable qualities. He also had a past that few people knew about and multiple personal issues despite appearing to have it all. Thus, playing the anti-hero Mister Sinister in X-Men is surely an easy task for Hamm to pull through.

X-Men movies are available on Disney Plus.
