Farming Enemies for Items

When gathering items from enemies, there are a few tricks that can make the entire process far more efficient. The first and most valuable trick available to players when farming enemies for items is the Burst Combo.Combo attacks can deal tons of damage to enemies, and players familiar with Xenoblade Chronicles 2 will remember how performing a Smash Combo would shake items loose from an enemy, effectively allowing them to get multiple sets of item drops from a single enemy.

In Xenoblade Chronicles 3 this ability has been given to the Burst Combo instead, with Smash gaining a larger damage boost to compensate for the lost utility. When performing a Burst Combo, the enemy hit will take a decent amount of damage while also dropping items as if they'd been defeated, allowing players to grab multiple sets of items from a single enemy if their team has the right setup. A good team might even be able to shake three or four sets of items out of an enemy before it is defeated.

The Sequence for performing a successful Burst Combo is: Break > Topple > Daze > Burst.

Useful Classes for enabling this combo are the Swordfighter, Heavy Guard, Troubadour, Medic Gunner, Ogre (Ogre requires Master Arts from Incursor, Guardian Commander, and/or Medic Gunner, but has an ability to increase the success rate of Combo effects.), and Incursor (Incursor with the Shield Bash Master Art from Guardian Commander can inflict Break and Topple simultaneously).

The second trick to farming enemies for items is more applicable to bosses, but still very useful. Performing a Chain Attack allows players to link together attacks quickly and efficiently, and even deal damage and trigger combos after the enemy is out of HP. This is especially useful when paired with Burst Combos to get a few extra sets of items out of an enemy when it's almost dead by cycling through the combo a couple more times.

Using Fabricators

Fabricators are a fantastic way to cut down time gathering resources that can be found while out and about in the game world. For a small fee, they'll produce a bunch of resources from the area they are located in, making them fantastic time savers and a fantastic way to gather resources en masse.

Particularly valuable Fabricators for sidequests include the Cascade Hulk Fabricator in the Pentelas Region (which can provide most of the resources needed for the Tau-Tirkin Alliance Quest) and the Clifftop Hulk in the Pentelas Region (Which can provide the final item for the aforementioned sidequest).

As a general rule, it's always worth checking the Fabricators in an area when looking for items that can be picked up in the area, since it can save a lot of time and running around for a low price.

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is available for Nintendo Switch.
