One of the most highly anticipated titles releasing for the Nintendo Switch later this summer is Xenoblade Chronicles 3. With an unexpectedly early release date, along with all the facets that were seen in previous franchise installments, fans of the series are looking forward to Xenoblade Chronicles 3. Now, it seems Nintendo has revealed even more information regarding the upcoming third installment of Xenoblade Chronicles.

Since the release of the original Xenoblade Chronicles back in 2012, the series has maintained many of the staple mechanics and design elements of the original game. While the combat system in Xenoblade Chronicles 2 was comparatively more divergent than what came before it, for the most part, the series has managed to have a consistent structure throughout each game. However, it seems that, where Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is concerned, Nintendo is building upon some aspects of gameplay, while keeping many other qualities the same.

Certain classes and characters will possess Arts that only specific characters, like Noah and Mio, can utilize. For instance, Noah belongs to the Swordfighter class, which means he can use Arts such as Sword Strike and Edge Thrust, which are considered offense-based abilities. Whereas, Mio's class, the Zephyr, deals with more defensive Arts, like Butterfly Blade, which causes enemies to direct their attention towards Mio and away from the rest of the party.

Of the six playable classes seen in Xenoblade Chronicles 3, each one also possesses something called a Talent Art, which is a considerably more powerful Art that is specific to each class. In addition, the combat in Xenoblade Chronicles 3 also features abilities called Fusion Arts that players can only unlock after the player has mastered certain Arts by maintaining a character's specific class.

Finally, numerous other gameplay mechanics seen in previous Xenoblade Chronicles games will be making an appearance in Xenoblade Chronicles 3. For example, players will be able to switch between enemy targets on the fly, chain combos together via the Break, Topple, and Daze mechanic found in the original Xenoblade Chronicles, and initiate chain attacks, which is a sequential attack between each party member that also served as the Final Smash for Shulk in Super Smash Bros.

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 releases July 29, 2022, for Nintendo Switch.
