XCOM: Chimera Squad is the squad-based spin-off from Firaxis and 2K Games' tactical series. Just like previous XCOM games, Chimera Squad gives players control over a small squad in turn-based combat against human and alien threats. Unlike previous titles, however, randomly-generated squad-members have been replaced by a colorful team with their own backstories and combat styles.

Whether a bog-standard human or an eight-foot snake lady with an even longer tongue, all Chimera Squad agents rely on the same weaponry to protect themselves. While these weapons start out quite basic, they can be upgraded over the course of the game to increase their effectiveness. One of the ways to upgrade weaponry is through the modification system, allowing a pair of stat-changing attachments to be equipped. The other way is to enhance the weapons through the Assembly, increasing their baseline damage and clip size at the cost of 55 Elerium.

Unique Weapons

As well as basic weaponry, XCOM: Chimera Squad also contains special, unique weapons that can either be purchased from the Scavenger's Market or obtained by the squad during missions. These weapons are almost always superior to their basic counterparts, and even offer special effects and new abilities. What's more, they can be improved just like basic weapons, benefiting from attachments and special ammunition. Here are some examples of top-tier special weapons to keep an eye out for during the campaign.

Surly Constant - This ADVENT prototype submachine gun was rejected because it burned through too much ammunition.

  • Damage: 3-5
  • Clip Size: 4
  • Grants the Hail of Bullets ability, allowing the user to fire a shot with a guaranteed hit rate at the cost of extra ammunition.

Lonely Herald - This ADVENT prototype shotgun used rare alloys to reduce its weight. Though it provided the bearer with battlefield mobility, it was ultimately rejected due to its cost.

  • Clip Size: 3
