XCOM 2: War of the Chosen is out now, and this deep expansion to XCOM 2 has been earning the plaudits of both fans and critics alike, with praise for the depth and scope of the expansion as a whole. Of course, the modding community was always going to expand on what Firaxis had made available at launch, and now those gamers who count themselves as fans of both XCOM and Overwatch have an excellent mod to get to grips with that adds Mercy to the game.

The content, which has been created by Steam user RuNis, is a cosmetic mod for XCOM 2: War of the Chosen which brings the beloved Overwatch character into a slightly more strategic setting. The mod itself looks great, with a huge variety of different color schemes available for the character, so it's bound to get plenty of fans.

Of course, being a cosmetic mod, this means that Mercy won't get any of her abilities. Of course, her ultimate ability would have proven extremely useful in the XCOM universe, even after a reduction that caused Blizzard to amend the Huge Rez achievement as it could no longer be completed.

Although this mod will certainly get lots of fans on side, it's fair to say that Firaxis has more than delivered when it comes to content with XCOM 2: War of the Chosen, as this expansion is no flash-in-the-pan set of DLC. Indeed, it turns out that this expansion pack was so big that it almost became XCOM 3 instead, so those players who have yet to pick it up can rest assured that it's a sizeable amount of content.

With that in mind, it's perhaps unlikely that gamers after an official Overwatch meets XCOM expansion pack will be on the receiving end of one any time soon. However, there could be some kind of spin-off of XCOM on the horizon in some capacity. After all, XCOM 2 creative director Jake Solomon has stated that he would like to create a horror-themed XCOM game at some point in the future, with a smaller scope and a campier tone.

For now, though, there's still the huge chunk of content that came with War of the Chosen for fans to get through. When that's done, of course, there's always the world of mods to turn to.
