In the transition from Xbox 360 to Xbox One, many gamers had to purchase new versions of games they already owned if they wanted to play them on their newer console. However, that won't be an issue in the transition from Xbox One to Xbox Series X thanks to Microsoft's Smart Delivery program, which gives gamers free upgrades when they move to the new console. The list of games that support the Xbox Series X Smart Delivery program continues to grow, with Microsoft confirming a new batch today.

The full list of Xbox Series X Smart Delivery games (that have been confirmed so far) can be found below, but some highlights include Cyberpunk 2077, Halo Infinite, and Destiny 2. The upcoming Assassin's Creed Valhalla also supports Smart Delivery, as does a number of other third-party games. In the months leading up to the Xbox Series X launch, fans can expect even more titles to be added to the Smart Delivery lineup.

Meanwhile, Microsoft has confirmed some other important Xbox Series X Smart Delivery features. Smart Delivery will support any Xbox Game Pass titles that have it, which would include first-party Xbox games like Gears 5 and Halo Infinite. Players can also expect their save files and progress to carry over from the Xbox One versions of the games to the Xbox Series X titles.

Xbox Smart Delivery could be a game-changer, and it would potentially make it so consumers don't feel quite as hesitant to keep investing in their current-generation games. For example, with Xbox Smart Delivery, Destiny 2 players don't have to worry about buying the whole game again or losing any of their progress when they upgrade to the next-gen version of the game.

It's also worth pointing out that even though not all Xbox One games will come with free Xbox Series X Smart Delivery upgrades, they will still be playable on the new system. Xbox Series X is backward compatible with Xbox One, and so even if players can't get a free upgrade, they can still play their Xbox One games on the new console.
