Microsoft has announced an Xbox Series X and Project xCloud live stream, set to take place in just over a week. While details for the new console have trickled out over time, fans have been waiting for an official unveiling of information for the Xbox Series X, and that may be what this is.

The live stream, named "The Xbox Series X + ProjectXCloud = New Chapter in Gaming" will be airing on Wednesday, March 18, at 11:40am PST (6:40pm in the UK). The stream will take place on Mixer, which is Microsoft's streaming platform.

Xbox announced a multitude of live streams taking place in a few weeks that will replace the postponed GDC event due to the coronavirus. It is possible that the information for the Xbox Series X and Project xCloud is timely enough that Xbox believes that waiting on the information any longer, until something like GDC is rescheduled, for example, will hurt the company as a whole. Instead, getting those details out into the public, ahead of Sony and the PS4 even, is the more beneficial option.

It's intriguing that Microsoft will be throwing both the Xbox Series X and Project xCloud in the same stream. It seems as if the goal for the next generation may be to build up Project xCloud as a strong pillar for the company. Microsft may be attempting to change the industry by allowing Xbox to be played on other systems through the cloud.

Microsft has worked tirelessly over the past few years at acquiring multiple game developing studios. Not only might this live stream unveil the Xbox Series X, and the brand new games that the Series X could play, but it could also show off the Project xCloud's ability to stream those games on the cloud, anywhere.

Fans should be happy to learn that this live stream is taking place. With the GDC itself being postponed due to the virus, there are rumors that the PS5 and Xbox Series X could be delayed due to the coronavirus as well. It's nice to know that Microsft has a backup plan in place with the live stream.
