The Xbox Series X looks to be one of Microsoft's best consoles yet– if it manages to deliver on all the features that it's currently promising– but there's still a pretty significant amount of information gamers don't know about the system. However, Microsoft has now explained a small, though significant, one of the Series X's features.
The Xbox Series X will feature what is known as Dynamic Latency Input, or DLI. The feature is designed to make games feel more responsive, though that requires some pretty intense technical wizardry on Microsoft's part. With the Xbox Series X supporting up to 120 frames per second, it was important for Microsoft to deliver a truly responsive experience, according to Xbox's Jason Ronald.
According to Ronald, DLI is an important new feature for the Xbox Series X, as it will allow the Series X to get the most recent inputs from the player "even if your input happens between different frames." Ronald elaborated further, saying, "It's really about getting the player to have that great immersive experience at all times." DLI may not seem like the most important Xbox Series X feature, but it's an innovation that gamers will likely come to appreciate, as it will have an effect on gameplay– especially in more competitive scenes.
The Xbox Series X shows a lot of promise. While coronavirus has generated fears that it, and the PS5, may be delayed, Microsoft doesn't expect Xbox to be impacted by the disease. Only time will tell, and if the disease does continue to cause production delays in certain regions, that may not end up being the case.
Regardless, it seems like next-gen consoles are going to be a major jump ahead for the industry. Not only are they bringing along major leaps in terms of power, but they're also bringing sweet new features- including backward compatibility, a big deal for many gamers. Right now, the consoles should be available during holiday 202o, barring any delays.
For gamers, the lead up to a new console launch is an exciting time. New consoles always bring along enhancements to the gaming experience overall. The best consoles of all time are the ones that not only look better, but also bring entirely new things to the table. Hopefully, PS5 and Xbox Series X will surpass what has been done before.
