The Xbox Series S Lockhart console could be much less powerful than the PS5 and the Xbox Series X, suggests a report. The same report also suggested that Microsoft is getting very close to officially announcing the Xbox Lockhart.

A report by Windows Central claims that the Xbox Series S Lockhart will only have four teraflops to work with. The console, which is expected to be a more affordable, entry point into next-generation gaming, is also likely to have fewer features than the Xbox Series X. The publication admits that it has "no idea" which features could be missing from the Xbox Lockhart, but supposes that it will keep the fast loading speeds and ray-tracing that have been confirmed for the Xbox Series X.

In comparison, the Xbox Series X will have 12 teraflops powering its graphics. This means that the console will be capable of offering some potentially incredible graphics. The Xbox Series X will also support 8K graphics and while only players using 8K TVs and monitors will be able to enjoy that, it suggests just what developers could do with the console.

Xbox Lockhart

In theory, this means that the Xbox Series S Lockhart will not be able to offer such great graphics. Games on the Xbox Series family of consoles, such as confirmed launch title Halo Infinite and dark adventure game Hellblade 2: Senua's Saga, could look worse on the Xbox Lockhart.

However, things could be a lot different in practice and Microsoft will likely try very hard to ensure fans that there isn't a huge chasm between the two consoles. Fans are excited about rumored Xbox Series X games like Fable 4 and series like Forza Motorsport and won't want to feel like they are enjoying them in a subpar way just because they've purchased the cheaper console. The Xbox Series S Lockhart will have to be affordable enough that fans are happy with the price, but powerful enough that fans do want to make the jump from the Xbox One.

Microsoft is rumored to be planning multiple Xbox console reveal events and if the leaks about the Xbox Series consoles are right, these will come with more information about the two of them. Pricing, games, specs, and launch availability will likely be confirmed as Microsoft also addresses any concerns about the experiences the two of them can offer.
