Next-generation console season is almost here, and gamers are keeping a close eye on the news for more information on both the next Xbox and the next PlayStation. A rumored leak has finally revealed the look of the lower-cost Xbox Series S, which is the cheaper and less powerful version of the Xbox Series X, and it looks a little strange.

None of the next-generation consoles have remained unscathed by the memes on social media. The PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X memes have been rampant online since the reveal of the designs for each. The Series X is jokingly called the mini-fridge while the PS5 was compared to the robot EVE from the movie WALL-E and a router. So it was inevitable that the Series S wouldn't get away unscathed either.

After a rumored leak revealed the release date, look, and price of the Xbox Series S, Microsoft made things official. The company did not reveal a release date, but it did confirm the design and the surprisingly low price of $299. This digital-only version of the Xbox Series is believed to release on the same date as the Series X.

The Xbox Series S design immediately created an immediate stir, launching a whole new flood of memes, comparing the console to a tiny speaker, phones, and even kitchen appliances. Here are some of the Tweets that appeared after the rumor and then the official reveal:

But realistically, the actual look of the Xbox Series S is closer to a more traditional console than both the PS5 and Series X. However, the vent on the front is hard to overlook. Though consoles have been all sorts of shapes and sizes over the years, from the GameCube (which will hopefully be recreated for the Portable GameCube Model) to the strangely curved PS3, most consoles have been basically rectangles.

Regardless of whether gamers are looking to pick up the PlayStation 5 or the Xbox Series, it looks like both will have a choice between a full version and a toned-down digital version. Moreover, it's a safe bet to assume that both the PS5 and the Xbox Series X will be released in November 2020.
