Head of Xbox Phil Spencer wrote earlier this year to Jim Ryan about Call of Duty's future on the PlayStation platform. The letter apparently stated that the team at Xbox has no intention of removing the gaming franchise for many years, even after the current contract with Sony ends. Spencer went so far as to state that there will even be continuity between the content available in Call of Duty titles on both Xbox and PlayStation consoles.
This news about Call of Duty is pleasantly surprising, especially for PlayStation fans who feared they would be barred from new additions to the franchise. Though Xbox will still retain certain benefits of owning the titles, such as adding Call of Duty to Game Pass, players from any platform will continue to be able to participate in the popular FPS franchise.
Amidst Activision Blizzard sales on iconic games, fans have now gotten firm details about the future of Call of Duty. Indeed, this is a good time to be a fan of Activision's flagship franchise. Even though Call of Duty wasn't leaving PlayStation any time soon, it is good for PS players to know that the Xbox Team intends to honor the franchise's long-standing history with the platform. Call of Duty is committed to PlayStation until 2024, but Spencer's latest claim makes it clear that new titles will be available for many years afterwords.
Players of all platforms may now anticipate games like Call of Duty: Warzone 2 and successors without fear that future content will not be offered. This decision, in truth, seems like the most logical one the Xbox team could have made.
