Microsoft's Game Pass subscription services adds two new games for July 11: Common'hood and Insurgency: Sandstorm. The former is available on Cloud, Console, and PC versions of Game Pass, while the latter is only available on PC Game Pass.

These two titles follow a small hiatus of sorts for Game Pass. It hasn't added a game prior to this since July 6, which is not unusual, but every game this month has a tough act to follow. On July 5, Xbox Game Pass added Grand Theft Auto 5 again, and while its return is likely to be short, there's no doubt many fans will have flocked to it. It constantly tops charts to this day, despite originally releasing back in 2013. Game Pass has also added Arcade Paradise, Sword and Fairy: Together Forever, and McPixel 3 since the start of July.

Insurgency: Sandstorm is a team-based FPS, but not one where players can go in wildly and expect to earn the win. It puts a big emphasis on tactical gameplay, combined with close-quarters combat and objective-focused gameplay. As a whole, it's a solid alternative to Call of Duty if different in plenty of ways. On OpenCritic, Insurgency: Sandstorm is rated Strong with a 79 Top Critic Average and 60% of critics recommending the shooter.

Game Pass List for July 11

  • Common'hood (Cloud, Console, PC)
  • Insurgency: Sandstorm (PC)

Meanwhile, Common'hood doesn't have as much in the way of reviews. It does have about 232 mixed reviews on Steam, however, and is described as a community-building economic management game with base building too. Players experience much in the way of traditional survival gameplay, such as building home, digging up resources, growing food, and so forth, and given the popularity of survival-style simulation games on Xbox Game Pass, it may find its home and community on Microsoft's service.

Of course, there's plenty on the horizon if either of these games doesn't scratch the right itch for subscribers. Capcom's multiplayer dinosaur game Exoprimal launches on July 14, while Technotica and The Cave hit the service on July 18. Microsoft is also expected to reveal more additions for Game Pass relatively soon, proving over and over why it's considered the most consumer-friendly service in the industry.

Xbox Game Pass subscribers get a handful of games every month.
