As Microsoft prepares for the release of the Xbox Series X, updates for the Xbox One have taken slowed down, especially following February's major user interface update. To prepare for this, Microsoft have started to roll out the Xbox One's May 2020 update to users, an update that seeks to flesh out the user interface introduced in February by making changes to the My Games & Apps section, Mixer, and more.

The first change comes to the Xbox One Guide feature, accessed by pressing the home button at any time. This new update reduces the amount of tabs previously present in the Guide, making it easier to navigate. The "Friends" tab also now allows players to use the "Discover Clubs" feature, usually found within the "Clubs" page so that player can find and join new clubs without having to exit back to the home menu, interrupting gameplay.

The "Parties & Chats" tab also combines the previous parties and messaging tabs together to allow players to communicate with friends more conveniently from within games, instead of having to navigate between two separate tabs. A similar change has been made to the "Sign-In", "Settings" and "Help" tabs, which have now been combined into the "Profile and System" tab, allowing players to switch profile, access system and audio settings and use Xbox Assist all from the same tab. A feature has also been added to customize the Guide tabs' layouts individually.

The system's "Community" page has also been updated, with the layout split into four new channels; "Shared by friends," "Official posts from games,"  "Club activity," and "Popular on Xbox Live," allowing players to keep up to date with social postings more conveniently. The "My Games & Apps" page has also been updated to include sorting by genres and player count, allowing players to easily navigate games in their collection of a certain genre, or multiplayer games.

Finally, Mixer has seen an update in that players can now preview a stream by hovering over its thumbnail before clicking into it, allowing them to get a glimpse of any given live stream before deciding to jump in and watch it.

This is undoubtedly far from the last update Xbox One players will see to the console's interface, as Microsoft has committed to supporting the Xbox One well after the Series X launches. It turns out we won't have to wait much longer to hear of what's next for Xbox too, as Microsoft is gearing up for a major first-party focused game reveal event in July which has been confirmed to feature the upcoming Xbox One and Xbox Series X title Halo Infinite.
