  • Microsoft is investigating the cause of the outage, with no resolution time disclosed.

Microsoft confirmed that Xbox Live is temporarily down, as a major outage is affecting Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S users attempting to log in. Xbox Live users will be unable to access certain features on their Xbox consoles while Microsoft investigates the cause of the service outage.

More than two decades after its inception on the original Xbox console, Xbox Live continues to be the online service that connects Xbox gamers around the world. Xbox Live Gold is now part of Xbox Game Pass Core, which gives subscribers access to online multiplayer in their favorite games, member deals and discounts in the Microsoft Store, and a catalog of over 25 select, high-quality titles on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. In addition, the Game Pass Console, PC, and Ultimate tiers grant access to new games added every month. Unfortunately, the Xbox Live outage is preventing many from playing games with their friends online or starting some of the games included with their Game Pass subscription.

According to the Xbox status page, a major outage was detected around 2:07 p.m. ET, disconnecting gamers from Xbox Live and preventing them from signing back into their Xbox profile. This problem applies to Xbox Live accounts on Xbox 360, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S, along with users attempting to use the Xbox Cloud Gaming service, the Xbox app on Windows, and the Xbox mobile app on Android and iOS. Xbox Live Experiences a Major Outage on Xbox Consoles and PC

In a subsequent update from Xbox Support, Microsoft stated that the investigation is "taking longer than expected" after identifying the cause of the Xbox Live outage. The response from the Xbox community is mostly negative, as many players are eagerly awaiting a fix in order to log back in and continue playing some of 2024's biggest games and DLC, such as Destiny 2: The Final Shape and Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree. Some are also confused that a majority of Xbox's services are "up and running," despite the Xbox Live outage affecting accounts and the primary way of accessing Xbox's suite of features.

Those encountering issues with their Xbox Live login are encouraged to submit reports and/or a private message to the Xbox Support Twitter account. Once the issue is fixed, players should be able to log back into Xbox Live and resume their online activities. Gamers will be able to experience some of Xbox Cloud Gaming's improved features once the outage is resolved as well.
