June has been packed with video game announcements and news with Sony's PS5 reveal being the gem at its center. But as June comes to an end and July begins, all eyes are on Microsoft's planned Xbox Series X first-party game showcase. The previously confirmed event will feature titles including gameplay from Halo Infinite and several major announcements. However, the July Xbox event still doesn't have a date. Unfortunately, it sounds like Xbox fans may be waiting a while longer.

Windows Central editor Jez Corden dropped an update for Xbox fans on their Twitter account this weekend. Corden says to his followers, "Don't expect the Xbox event in early July btw." Corden doesn't offer a source for his information. He doesn't provide any specific information about the event either. Perhaps Corden brought up the topic just so fans don't build up their expectations yet.

While he doesn't specify a date, Corden does add some context in some of his mentions tied to the original July Xbox event tweet. For example, one Twitter user asks Jez to confirm that the event won't be between July 17-19, perhaps due to a vacation. Jez says, "I think you're safe lol." He also replies to another Twitter user who says July 21 is their birthday, making it a good date. Corden replied, "hmm" with a thinking emoji. It's perhaps implied that the event will be after July 19, or maybe on July 21.

There's, unfortunately, no publically available corroborating evidence for Corden's comments right now, but there is some circumstantial evidence. The biggest factor being that Microsoft hasn't actually announced its July event date yet, with July about to begin. Microsoft will hopefully give fans at least a couple of weeks heads up, if only to build up some hype.

Also worth noting is that Jeff Grubb of Venture Beat's schedule of upcoming summer gaming events corroborates Corden's comment. His schedule shows the Xbox Game Studios reveal event as "July ???" but it's listed after another event on July 20. Grubb previously revealed the initial PS5 event's date early after listing it between two other events.

Ultimately, Corden's message is clear. Xbox fans hoping for news about games for the Xbox Series X will have to wait a while yet. It may be another three weeks, or it may be more or less. But it's going to be a wait no matter what. Luckily, it sounds like the wait will be worth it.

Microsoft's Xbox Series X first-party game showcase is planned for July.
