Xbox Game Pass Ultimate has added Cassette Beasts to its lineup today, with the new game enjoying rave reviews from critics so far. Cassette Beasts takes its inspiration from Game Freak and Nintendo's Pokemon franchise, but looks to provide its own twist on the familiar concept.

Like Pokemon, Cassette Beasts is a game that revolves around collecting monsters and using them in turn-based battles. The difference is that the player character themselves actually transforms into the monsters in Cassette Beasts. Players also have the option of fusing two of the monsters together to create a completely new creature, essentially turning the popular Pokemon fusion fan art concept into a gameplay feature.

Many Pokemon clones have hit the market over the years, but none have been quite as well-received as Cassette Beasts. There aren't a ton of Cassette Beasts reviews available just yet, but the ones that have been published have heaped glowing praise onto the game. Some have gone as far as to give the game perfect 10/10 scores and say that Cassette Beasts is even better than Pokemon, indicating it could be one of the best games in its genre. Luckily, anyone interested can try the game right now through PC Game Pass, which is available as a standalone subscription or with an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription.

Xbox Game Pass subscribers that would rather wait for the console version to drop should note that Cassette Beasts now has a solid console release date as well. While Cassette Beasts is currently available for PC gamers to play, those on Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X will have to wait for May 25 to get their hands on the game. If the early Cassette Beasts reviews are any indication, though, it's safe to say that the game will definitely be worth the wait.

Cassette Beasts being confirmed for a May 25 release date on consoles means that yet another game has been added to the May 2023 Game Pass lineup ahead of the official announcement. May 2023 is shaping up to be a rather impressive month for Microsoft's Xbox Game Pass subscription service, with Redfall scheduled to drop on May 2, Ravenlok coming on May 4, and Fuga: Melodies of Steel 2 joining the lineup on May 11. Xbox Game Pass subscribers also have Amnesia: The Bunker to look forward to on May 23, Railway Empire 2 to check out on May 25, and Farworld Pioneer to play on May 30.

Cassette Beasts is out now for PC with Switc, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X versions coming May 25.
